The Forklift Driver is responsible for safely operating industrial forklifts and material handling equipment to move lumber, logs, pallets, and production materials throughout the sawmill facility. This role supports daily production, shipping, receiving, and inventory operations while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, efficiency, and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy forklifts in a fast-paced industrial or manufacturing environment.
Major Responsibilities & Duties
- Operate forklifts and material handling equipment safely and efficiently throughout the sawmill facility.
- Transport lumber, logs, pallets, and production materials between departments, storage yards, and loading areas.
- Load and unload trucks, trailers, and railcars while ensuring materials are properly secured and handled safely.
- Stack, organize, and store lumber and materials in designated areas to maintain efficient workflow and inventory control.
- Conduct pre-shift inspections of forklifts and equipment, reporting maintenance or safety concerns immediately.
- Assist with inventory counts, material tracking, and production support as needed.
- Follow production schedules and work closely with supervisors and production teams to maintain workflow efficiency.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas while adhering to all housekeeping and safety standards.
- Comply with OSHA regulations, company safety procedures, and forklift operating guidelines at all times.
- Assist with general labor duties and other operational tasks as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous forklift operating experience in a sawmill, lumber yard, manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environment preferred.
- Valid forklift certification preferred or ability to become certified.

- Safe and efficient forklift operation skills, including transporting heavy and oversized loads.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and climb in industrial environments throughout scheduled shifts.

- Must be able to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including extreme temperatures.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Required to wear all appropriate PPE, including hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
- Position requires good hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and the ability to safely maneuver heavy equipment in tight spaces.
- Must be comfortable working around moving equipment, production machinery, and lumber materials in a busy sawmill environment.
