Eleven Recruiting is hiring a Quality Engineer for one of our largest Aerospace Manufacturing companies sitting onsite in Los Alamitos, CA.
The Senior Quality Engineer is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality for assigned programs. This position demands proactive oversight and meticulous control of all quality attributes to ensure full compliance with company and customer contractual requirements, specifications, and drawings.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all raw materials, component details, and finished products for assigned programs are procured and/or manufactured according to contractual quality requirements.
- Manage supplier interactions, support new product development programs, and ensure supplier compliance with company and customer quality requirements.
- Develop and communicate company's expectations for quality performance, continuous improvement, quality systems, process controls, and capabilities to suppliers.
- Mentor and train supplier representatives in quality systems, process control methods, problem-solving, and statistical tools.
- Develop and execute supplier audit schedules, conduct supplier audits, and follow up on corrective actions.
- Maintain the supplier program, including supplier ratings, metrics, and development.
- Measure and report supplier performance on key metrics, and develop continuous improvement plans, reporting results to management monthly.
- Establish quality control criteria, methods, and procedures, including visual and physical inspection points and testing requirements.
- Perform surveillance over tools, fixtures, gauges, and tests; prepare, approve, and distribute supporting quality documents, bulletins, and work instructions.
- Monitor in-process control points of assigned programs to ensure effective quality assurance feedback to management and relevant personnel.
- Assess customer-returned materials, assign responsibility, and approve work instructions as required.
- Maintain effective liaison with customers and associated governmental agencies, including product quality assurance representatives and technical support staff.
- Lead or participate in customer quality surveys or audits as needed.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure conformance to quality manuals and procedures.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and support groups to detect and resolve quality issues; implement effective corrective actions to prevent repeat non-conformances.
- Serve as a member of the Material Review Board.
- Provide input and approve manufacturing routings, ensuring mandatory inspection points are adequately defined and placed.
- Coordinate internal corrective action requests and audit the effectiveness of internal corrective actions.
Qualifications
- Requires a B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent combination of experience and education in quality assurance.
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
- Requires 5 years of experience in manufacturing quality engineering/supplier quality engineering, with at least 5 years in the aerospace industry.
- Experience with Lean methodologies required.
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings/blueprints.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated decision-making strength.
- Capable of multi-tasking to meet multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective working across organizational levels.
- Ability to analyze and develop policies/procedures, perform root cause analysis (including Pareto, fishbone, 5Y), and conduct process mapping.
- Proficient with manufacturing processes and controls, and inspection tools/gauges.
- Must be accurate and detail-oriented.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
