A partner firm of Elevate located in the Boca Raton, Florida area is seeking an experienced Tax Director to lead and grow its tax practice. This is a high-impact leadership role offering the opportunity to shape the future of the firm’s tax strategy, client service, and team development within Elevate’s broader national platform.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong generalist tax background, significant experience serving construction and real estate clients, and expertise in both tax consulting and compliance. Experience with international taxation is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Client Service & Technical Excellence
- Deliver exceptional tax advisory, planning, and compliance services to entrepreneurial businesses, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals
- Provide sophisticated tax consulting and advisory services while managing complex compliance engagements
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on tax planning, entity structuring, business transactions, and complex tax matters
- Oversee and review federal, state, and local tax filings for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and other entities
- Prepare and review complex tax returns as needed
- Manage and respond to IRS and state tax notices and examinations
- Maintain and grow a personal book of business while building long-term client relationships
- Identify opportunities to deepen client relationships through additional advisory and tax planning services
Construction & Real Estate Tax Expertise
- Provide technical expertise related to construction contractors and real estate entities
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of:
- IRC Section 460 long-term contract accounting methods
- Percentage-of-completion, completed-contract, cash, accrual, and hybrid accounting methods
- Look-back interest computations
- Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) calculations related to long-term construction contracts
- Shareholder and partner basis calculations
- At-risk and passive activity loss rules
- Accounting method changes and Form 3115 calculations
- Advise clients on tax planning, structuring, compliance, and consulting matters involving real estate ownership and development entities
International Tax
- Provide guidance on international tax matters, including:
- Cross-border transactions
- Foreign reporting requirements
- International compliance obligations
- Tax planning strategies for multinational individuals and businesses
Leadership & Practice Management
- Help lead the growth and management of the tax practice
- Support oversight of departmental financial performance, staffing, and workflow management
- Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain a high-performing tax team
- Take ownership of staff workload management, technical review, performance, and professional development
- Foster a collaborative, client-focused, and growth-oriented culture
- Manage new client opportunities from lead conversion through onboarding and ongoing relationship management
- Collaborate with leadership teams across multiple offices to provide effective practice leadership
Operational & Strategic Responsibilities
- Conduct technical tax research to ensure accurate, compliant, and practical client solutions
- Develop engagement budgets, pricing proposals, and profitability analyses
- Manage staff assignments and resource planning
- Prepare internal management reports and practice metrics
- Partner with Elevate leadership to standardize processes, improve quality, and leverage shared services, technology, AI tools, and operational best practices
Qualifications
- Active CPA license required
- 10 years of progressive public accounting tax experience
- Significant experience serving construction contractors and real estate clients
- Strong generalist tax background across individual, partnership, S corporation, C corporation, trust, and estate taxation
- Demonstrated success managing client relationships and maintaining a book of business
- Proven leadership experience managing, mentoring, and developing tax professionals
- Experience converting referrals and new business opportunities into long-term client relationships
- Strong technical expertise in tax planning, consulting, and compliance
- Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and analytical skills
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a growth-oriented environment
- Experience with international taxation preferred
- Ability to work onsite in Boca Raton, Florida
