Nutanix to VMware Migration SME (Project Manager/Architect)
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead a Nutanix to VMware migration initiative across multiple sites. This individual can come from either a Project Management or Technical Architecture background, but must have deep expertise in infrastructure migrations and the ability to own and drive the process end-to-end.
This role will support the migration of 20–30 sites, each with varying levels of complexity, including clusters ranging from 3 to 10 nodes. The ideal candidate will be both technically proficient and client-facing, capable of managing execution while maintaining strong communication with stakeholders on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the SME for Nutanix to VMware migrations, providing guidance on strategy, planning, and execution
- Lead and coordinate migrations across 20–30 distributed sites with varying infrastructure sizes and complexities
- Develop and manage migration plans, timelines, and resource coordination for each site
- Oversee the end-to-end migration lifecycle, including assessment, design, execution, validation, and post-migration support
- Act as the primary point of contact for the client, providing daily updates, status reporting, and issue resolution
- Ensure migrations are completed with minimal disruption, maintaining system integrity, performance, and uptime
- Identify risks, dependencies, and potential challenges, and proactively implement mitigation strategies
- Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure seamless delivery
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience leading Nutanix to VMware (or similar virtualization) migrations
- Background as either:
- Technical Architect with hands-on infrastructure expertise, OR
- Project Manager with strong technical understanding of virtualization environments
- Experience managing multi-site, complex infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of:
- Nutanix (AHV, Prism, etc.)
- VMware stack (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, etc.)
- Ability to manage migrations across clusters ranging from small (3 nodes) to mid-size (10 nodes)
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills – must be articulate and comfortable interacting with stakeholders daily
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Based in or near Charlotte, NC (or willing to be onsite as needed)
- Experience with data center migrations, infrastructure modernization, or cloud transitions
- Familiarity with migration tools, automation, and best practices
