Industrial Wastewater Treatment Technician

Location: Hartford, CT

Compensation: $20–$35 per hour

Schedule: 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift; weekend days included

You arrive for your shift at our industrial manufacturing and metal recycling facility and begin with a walk-through of the treatment area. Pumps hum steadily, gauges and SCADA readouts show the morning’s baselines, and you log your initial readings. A quick inspection of clarifiers, filters, and chemical feed systems sets the tone for a safe and compliant day. You collect samples, verify dosages, and adjust processes to keep biological, chemical, and physical treatment steps operating within targets. Throughout the shift, you document results, label containers, keep work areas clean, and jump in to support adjacent production and facility operations as needed. If an alarm pops or a pump stalls, you troubleshoot the mechanical, electrical, or process issue and notify your supervisor immediately.

• Operate and monitor wastewater treatment systems and equipment.
• Perform routine inspections of machinery, equipment, and processing areas.
• Keep assigned machinery and work areas clean and orderly.
• Maintain complete and accurate paperwork, logs, and operational records.
• Track treatment performance and promptly report abnormalities or concerns.
• Follow established procedures for sampling, identifying, and processing materials.
• Label, stencil, or otherwise identify containers used to store materials.
• Immediately notify supervisors of equipment malfunctions, process issues, or potential problems.
• Adhere to written safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
• Comply with company quality assurance and operating procedures.
• Complete all documentation assigned by the supervisor.
• Support other production, processing, and facility operations as needed.

• Experience in wastewater treatment, industrial operations, manufacturing, or machine operation (preferred).
• Ability to operate and monitor machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy in documentation.
• Comfort following written procedures and safety guidelines.
• Clear communication skills; able to work independently and within a team.
• Ability to work overnight shifts in an industrial environment.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 3 years of industrial or municipal wastewater treatment experience.
• Knowledge of biological, chemical, and physical wastewater treatment processes.
• Skill troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues.
• Experience collecting samples and performing laboratory testing.
• Computer proficiency for documentation, reporting, and data analysis.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.

• Experience operating automated treatment systems and SCADA controls.
• Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and state environmental regulations.
• Background with industrial wastewater from manufacturing or metal processing operations.
• Mechanical aptitude with pumps, piping systems, and process equipment.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced industrial environment.
• Strong communication skills.
• Previous experience mentoring or training operators.
