What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Material Planner position at Electronic Source Company (ESC)?
The Materials Planner is responsible for planning and scheduling PCBA production and ensuring that all materials and kits are accurately prepared and staged to support manufacturing workflows. The planner works closely with Program Managers, Buyers, Engineers, Quality, Receiving, and Production to keep customer orders on schedule and meet all delivery commitments. This role serves as a key member of the Customer Focus Team and supports high-profile accounts such as Boeing, Raytheon, and Danbury. The planner is expected to demonstrate strong ownership, attention to detail, and clear, professional communication. Each planner manages material-related activities for assigned customer accounts and collaborates across departments to maintain efficient production flow and exceptional customer satisfaction.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and adjust production schedules for assigned customers (daily, weekly, and monthly) in coordination with Production leadership
- Plan PCBA builds with the production floor to ensure materials, labor, and equipment capacity are aligned with customer demand and committed ship dates
- Coordinate closely with the stockroom to ensure material kits are accurately pulled, staged, and released for job orders
- Monitor Work In Process (WIP), identify bottlenecks, and help drive jobs through all phases of production, including operations such as tinning and conformal coating.
- Utilize ESC’s Epicor ERP system for planning, scheduling, and material status visibility
- Serve as the primary materials and schedule contact for assigned customers, including key accounts such as Boeing, Raytheon, and Danbury
- Participate in customer and internal weekly meetings to provide clear updates on material status, build progress, and delivery schedules
- Provide timely work order and delivery status to Program/Project Managers and other stakeholders
- Operate as a key contributing member of the Customer Focus Team, collaborating with Program Management, Production, Purchasing, Engineering, Receiving, Stockroom, and Document Control
- Work closely with Buyers to escalate and resolve electronic component shortages, including recommending expedites or alternates when appropriate
- Partner with the Receiving department to ensure incoming materials are processed, inspected, and made available in a timely manner to support production schedules
- Track and LPI (Last Part In) to ensure materials are available to support on-time delivery
- Use ERP/MRP (Epicor) and planning tools to forecast potential material and capacity constraints and recommend solutions (e.g., overtime, schedule adjustments, or capacity expansions)
- Collaborate closely with Engineering to ensure Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) are reviewed, signed off, and implemented correctly from a materials and scheduling standpoint
- Coordinate with Document Control to ensure customer part numbers and revisions are correctly set up in the system and aligned with customer Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Work with the Quality department to address any quality-related holds, inspections, or nonconformances that may impact material availability or delivery schedules and incorporate those impacts into the production plan
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years experience as a materials planner or master scheduler
- Strong, hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems; experience with Epicor is highly preferred
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analysis)
- Experience in manufacturing industry, contract manufacturing preferred
- Strong hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems
- Able to work and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-mix, high-change environment
- Must be a US citizen or permanent resident
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year accredited university in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or related field
- EMS/PCBA experience strongly preferred
- APICS certification
- Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings
- Current IPC-J-STD-001 Certification (with Space Addendum preferred)
- IPC-A-610 Certification
