About the Role
We are seeking a Customer Solution Engineer (CSE) to support the pre-sales design and technical qualification of residential and commercial automated gate entry systems. In this role you will work closely with customers to evaluate site conditions, define system architecture, and ensure proposed solutions that are technically sound, code-compliant, and aligned with customer needs.
The ideal candidate must possess the ability to communicate clearly with homeowners, builders, landscape architects / designers, architects, property managers, and others. This position is primarily focused on being a Sales Consultant / Design Consultant, helping drive confidence, accuracy, and success in all stages of a client's experience with EES.
While not essential, technical expertise in Gate Automation including Gate Operators, Accessories, and Design will help the candidate get off to a fast start in the role.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales Technical Consulting & Design
- Evaluate customer desires, requirements and site conditions.
- Design compliant automated gate solutions tailored to each application.
- Develop system architectures including gate operators, controls, safety devices, access credentials, and supporting infrastructure.
- Ensure all proposed solutions comply with UL 325 and local code requirements.
Technical Sales Support
- Participate in customer meetings, site walks, and technical discussions.
- Present system designs, explain technical tradeoffs, and answer in-depth technical questions.
- Support proposal development by validating scope, system configuration, and technical feasibility.
Demonstrations & Proof of Concept
- Assist with technical demonstrations, mock-ups, or proofs of concept when required.
- Help customers understand system operation, safety features, and long-term reliability.
Risk Identification & Scope Validation
- Identify technical risks, site constraints, and integration challenges early in the sales cycle.
- Collaborate with operations and service teams to ensure proposed solutions are installable and supportable.
Internal Collaboration & Feedback
- Work with engineering, operations, and service teams to refine standard designs and sales practices.
- Provide feedback on recurring customer needs, competitive positioning, and product gaps.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Sales & Communication Skills
- Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable supporting sales conversations, presenting solutions, and influencing technical decisions.
- Professional, customer-facing presence.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Ability
- Strong ability to assess site conditions and design solutions for complex or non-standard environments.
- Skilled at identifying risks before they become operational issues.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Ability to create a connection with people
- Ability to follow up over the long term with customers
- Prior experience in Consultative Sales, Solutions Engineering, or Estimating
- Experience working with property managers, HOAs, municipalities, or AHJs
Technical Expertise
- Understanding of automated gate systems and access control technologies.
- Experience with gate operators, control boards, wiring diagrams, safety devices, and low-voltage systems.
- Working knowledge of UL 325, entrapment protection, and life-safety requirements.
