Manufacturing Engineering Manager – High Mix / Low Volume
We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead and develop our engineering team in a high mix, low volume precision manufacturing environment. This role combines technical leadership with direct shop-floor involvement in CNC machining, precision grinding, and assembly operations.
What You’ll Do
- Lead, mentor, and grow the Manufacturing Engineering team, driving performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide hands-on support for CNC machining, grinding, and assembly; troubleshoot complex manufacturing issues and implement solutions.
- Develop, validate, and optimize manufacturing processes to ensure repeatability, quality, and compliance.
- Champion Lean and Six Sigma initiatives to eliminate waste, improve quality, reduce variation, and enhance safety and efficiency.
- Design and optimize lean manufacturing cells, workflows, and facility layouts for maximum efficiency.
- Oversee supplier and subcontractor performance to meet specifications, quality, and process requirements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to support NPI, process readiness, and operational excellence.
What You Bring
- Strong hands-on experience in CNC machining, precision grinding, and mechanical assembly.
- Proven leadership skills, including team development, performance management, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Deep knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to analyze processes, implement improvements, and solve complex technical problems.
- Strong communication skills and business acumen to partner effectively across the organization.
Education and Experience:
- BS degree with engineering emphasis required; MS degree in engineering (preferred).
- 8 years of experience working directly with manufacturing processes (build to print and new product development) and successfully leading a Manufacturing Engineering function within a low volume, high mix manufacturing environment.
- 5 years of experience leading teams of engineers in a continuous improvement environment.
- 2 years demonstrated hands-on expertise with CNC, Assembly and/or Grinding processes.
- Black/Green Belt or Lean Certification a plus.
- Knowledge of magnetic materials and applications in a high mix/low volume manufacturing environment is a plus.
