Job Summary:
The Machinist III (Lead) is a hands-on technical leader responsible for advanced machine setup, precision machining, and process troubleshooting in a high-precision manufacturing environment. This role serves as a working lead, supporting daily production while mentoring machinists and operators, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring processes consistently meet quality, tolerance, and safety requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Perform advanced setups, changeovers, and calibrations on CNC and non-CNC machining and grinding equipment.
• Achieve and maintain tight tolerances, including dimensions below .0005, independently.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, setup, quality, and process issues using root cause analysis.
• Support production by achieving expected rates while maintaining quality standards.
• Collaborate with Quality and Engineering to resolve complex quality or process concerns.
• Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to Machinists and Operators at all levels.
• Lead or support continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives.
• Document and refine setup procedures, standard work, and best practices.
• Assist with machine repair, preventive maintenance, and autonomous maintenance programs.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and production standards.
Leadership & Advanced Responsibilities:
• Act as a technical point of contact within assigned machining cells or departments.
• Lead improvement projects and support cross-functional initiatives.
• Manage or support autonomous maintenance schedules and adherence.
• Provide feedback and coaching to support skill development across the team.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3–5 years of machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in precision machining and tight tolerances below .0005.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and advanced problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints and GD&T.
• Leadership, mentoring, or working-lead experience preferred.
• Experience with CNC programming, G/M code, or advanced setups highly preferred.
