We’re looking for an experienced RTU Technician to join our Trussville, Alabama team. In this role, you’ll apply your knowledge of substation automation and control systems to support, install, and troubleshoot remote terminal units (RTUs) that link substation equipment to the utility’s SCADA system.

What You’ll Do
- Install, configure, and test RTUs for electric utility substations.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, control wiring, and communication networks.
- Work with DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 61850 SCADA communication protocols.
- Interpret and update engineering drawings, including one-line and three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
- Use configuration software (such as SEL and GE RTU tools) to implement control logic and settings.
- Coordinate with engineers and project managers to support commissioning and field testing activities.
- Mentor newer technicians and support continuous improvement within the field team.
- Maintain detailed records of configuration changes, test results, and field modifications.
What You Bring
- Experience: 5 years in electrical or controls systems work within the power industry or related fields.
- Education: Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Controls, or a related discipline (equivalent experience may substitute).
- Strong understanding of electrical drawings, RTU wiring, and control circuit troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining RTUs (SEL, GE, or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of Ethernet, serial, and fiber communication systems.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in the field.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
