Position Summary
Electra is seeking an experienced Director of Certification to lead the certification activities of our engineering team in the development and certification of our unique turbine hybrid-electric fly-by-wire aircraft. Applicants must have a track record of working in a team through multiple aircraft development and certification programs from development to entry into service. Participation in a sophisticated Part 23 general aviation aircraft certification project would be an advantage.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Responsible for setting the strategy, schedule, and driving execution within the organization.
- Establish a detailed path to type certification, including a conformity plan, and provide oversight of the compliance verification and conformity processes.
- Lead the selection of engineers to assist in the certification process and manage, develop, and retain the certification engineers.
- Lead engineering in the establishment of type design, compliance reports, and a path to future company certification designee capability.
- Assist in the establishment of a Production Certificate.
- Lead concurrent certification processes with foreign authorities.
- Lead the acceptance of our Project Specific Certification Plan and related documents in support of company goals.
- Define the approach and framework, while leading engineering in the production of, compliance plans and documents.
- Lead communications with the appropriate offices of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and organize and chair review meetings between Electra and FAA specialists.
- Advise internal groups on certification compliance aspects.
- Guide engineering involvement in governmental / industry working groups.
- Assist engineering with the coordination of external Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs).
- Assist production with coordination of Designated Airworthiness Representative (DARs).
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent demonstrated work experience.
- 15 years experience in aircraft certification; 5 years in a management role with proven success leading a team.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) and certification procedures.
