The Sr. Safety Representative plays a vital role in upholding high safety standards within the NY Electric Operations Division. The Sr. Safety Representative is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and maintaining various Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE) initiatives, including training programs and compliance measures. Reporting to the Regional Safety Manager, this position connects safety, operations, and compliance and collaborates closely with other Safety personnel as an integral team member. This role requires someone to be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility within the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and support compliance with HSE regulatory requirements mandated by the company and governmental agencies, including DOT regulations.
- Monitor workplaces and work activities to ensure safe work procedures and practices are being followed.
- Develop and promote a culture that delivers safe workers and a safe workplace.
- Implement accident-prevention activities as directed or as needed.
- Act as the technical resource for HSE and DOT-related issues in the respective Operating area.
- Conduct safety orientation and training in a timely, professional manner. Deliver quality presentations for large groups for extended periods.
- Conduct accident investigations on time, including documenting safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures, and recommending corrective procedures.
- Assist in injury/illness case management. Avoid injuries becoming OSHA recordable.
- Perform safety audits and provide reports. Serve as a catalyst to ensure compliance.
- Assist in HSE policy development and implementation.
- Assist the operating area management in executing safety responsibilities and ensuring safety efforts are successful.
- Recommend safety improvement and accident-prevention methods.
- Work with Operating Area Management to integrate HSE into daily work procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required.
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Safety is a plus.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in the utility field.
- Minimum of 4 years’ safety experience in the construction industry.
- CUSP/CSP certification is a plus.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and EPA laws and regulations.
- Current valid driver’s license.
- Flexibility to travel around NY State regularly. Flexibility to respond rapidly to emergencies with very short notice (may include multiple days overnight).Flexibility to work non-traditional hours/weekends as required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel & PowerPoint for training & presentation development.
- Proficiency in using various computer systems and software applications to make/post/send training videos.
Work Environment & Hazards
- Standard office environment with minimal to no travel requirements.
- This role is in-person and may occasionally require work beyond standard business hours.
Special Physical Demands
- Lifting/Moving: Must be able to lift and move up to 25lbs.
- Sedentary Work: Ability to remain in a seated or standing position at a workstation for extended periods while performing computer-based and administrative tasks.

- Frequent communication with all staff and departments, including Fleet, IT, Operations, Safety, and subcontractor teams.
- Significant contact specifically with Operations and Project Management personnel across Elecnor Hawkeye.
- Frequent encounters with external vendors, training providers, third-party administrators, and regulatory bodies.
