We are an in-house legal team at a commercial real estate owner/operator seeking a Real Estate Attorney to support a high-volume transactional practice. This role is heavily focused on drafting, negotiating, and managing commercial lease agreements and related deal documents.
The ideal candidate is a strong legal writer with hands-on commercial real estate experience who can operate with a high degree of autonomy, exercise sound judgment, and drive transactions forward in a fast-paced, deal-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Leasing & Transactional Drafting
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial real estate documents, including retail and office leases, amendments, renewals, SNDAs, estoppels, and related agreements
- Produce clear, practical, and landlord-favorable lease language and manage negotiations with counterparties
Acquisitions, Dispositions & Financings
- Support acquisitions, dispositions, and financings by reviewing and negotiating transaction documents, coordinating diligence, and assisting through closing
- Manage deal checklists, timelines, and closing deliverables in coordination with internal and external stakeholders
Legal Review & Issue Spotting
- Review and analyze third-party documents, including leases, title reports, surveys, loan documents, and service agreements
- Identify legal and business risks and provide practical, solutions-oriented guidance to internal teams
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with asset management, acquisitions, and property management teams to support ongoing portfolio needs
- Interface directly with outside counsel, lenders, title companies, brokers, and counterparties
Matter Ownership
- Independently manage multiple transactions simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and deals progress efficiently
- Provide regular updates on deal status and key issues
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in New York (or ability to waive in)
- 2–3 years of experience in commercial real estate law (law firm or in-house)
- Strong drafting and negotiation experience, particularly with commercial leases
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Experience:
- Exposure to retail, mixed-use, or shopping center leasing
- Experience working directly with business teams in an owner/operator or developer environment
- Ability to balance legal risk with practical business objectives
