Summary
Elan Homes, LLC is seeking a detail-oriented Permitting Technician to support our home-building operations by managing all aspects of the permitting and approval process. This role serves as a liaison between our team, architects/engineers, and local permitting authorities to ensure that all required permits are submitted correctly, processed efficiently, and obtained in compliance with applicable building codes and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, review, and process permit applications (building, zoning, trade, and related permits) for residential home construction projects.
- Verify submitted plans and documentation for completeness and conformance with relevant codes, ordinances, and company standards, and identify missing or inconsistent items.
- Coordinate the permit approval process: route applications to appropriate internal or external reviewers (planning, engineering, public works, health, utilities, etc.), track status, follow up as needed, and ensure timely permit issuance.
- Schedule inspections or follow-up reviews as required, coordinate with inspectors, and track completion of any required corrective actions or code compliace
- Provide general administrative support: data entry, filing, scanning/submitting documents, maintaining logs, generating reports on permit activity, and other clerical tasks as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with building codes, zoning ordinances, and permit procedures (residential construction permitting a plus).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail — able to manage multiple permit applications/projects simultaneously while tracking deadlines and requirements.
- Good verbal and written communication skills: able to interact professionally with builders, contractors, municipal staff, and homeowners; able to explain procedures and requirements clearly.
- Basic computer literacy: experience with permit-tracking software, database entry, spreadsheets, and general office tools (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Customer service orientation: courteous, professional, and responsive when dealing with applicants, public, inspectors, and team members.
Preferred / Additional
- Prior experience with residential home building, construction drawings, site plans, or municipal permitting processes.
- Familiarity with trade permits (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) and associated documentation requirements.
- Ability to coordinate across multiple departments and external agencies (planning, zoning, engineering, health, utilities, etc.) for comprehensive project approvals.

- Permit applications submitted correctly and on time, with minimal corrections or delays.
- Smooth coordination between design/engineering teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies — projects begin on schedule.
- Accurate and up-to-date permit documentation, records, and inspection logs.
- Prompt, clear, and professional communication with all stakeholders (internal team, contractors, municipal agencies, homeowners).
- Effective tracking of permit status and proactive follow-up to avoid bottlenecks or compliance issues.
