Job Summary

The El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) seeks a highly motivated candidate who has a passion for working with youth to inspire growth in leadership and voice among the high school students in El Dorado County. The El Dorado County Youth Commission Advisor works under the Executive Director of Charter Alternative Programs within EDCOE to provide leadership, direction, and support to the Youth Commission. The Youth Commission consists of twelve Grade 9-12 students from El Dorado County and the goal is to have equal representation on the Youth Commission from the Supervisorial Districts within El Dorado County. The youth Commissioners are appointed by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors and apply to be part of the Commission during the spring for the following year. Youth Commissioners who are appointed are eligible to serve the Commission for as long as they are in high school. The Youth Commission works with the advisor to choose projects that support the needs of students in El Dorado County. They have been focused on mental health supports and resources and have presented their work and research to the EDCOE Board as well as the Board of Supervisors annually. The amount of commitment for the Youth Commission Advisor varies greatly during the school year with a majority of the support happening in the fall (August through October) and the spring (March-May). The Commission meets twice monthly in the evenings using in-person and remote options for the commissioners.
