Duties
- Safely operate school buses and other authorized vehicles, including paratransit and specialized transportation vehicles, following all traffic laws and safety protocols
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, mechanical functionality, and cleanliness before each route
- Transport students to designated stops, schools, extracurricular activities, and special events with punctuality and care
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and colleagues to coordinate schedules and address any concerns or emergencies
- Manage student behavior during transit using positive behavior management techniques to promote a safe and respectful environment
- Assist children with special needs or childcare requirements, providing support as needed to ensure their comfort and safety
- Maintain accurate records of routes, student attendance, incidents, and vehicle maintenance logs
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate school bus endorsements or willingness to obtain one upon hire
- Proven experience in bus driving or commercial driving roles; experience with school bus driving preferred
- Strong communication skills in English
- Knowledge of driving safety regulations, mechanical basics for vehicle troubleshooting, and child behavior management techniques
- Experience working with children or in childcare settings is highly desirable
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively while maintaining focus on safety
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly attitude towards students, parents, and school staff
- Physical ability to sit for extended periods, perform vehicle inspections, and assist children as needed
