What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Manager position at EF?
The Housing Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Residential accommodations experience at our international English language campus, and for helping the housing Director in building a community and maintaining relationship with host families in the San Diego Area. This includes everything from team management to customer service, facilities and staffing, and student welfare and safety.
The successful candidate for this position will report to the Director of Housing and oversee all aspects of student housing including accommodation placement, welfare/discipline, and administration. Excellent communication skills are needed to liaise with our sales offices worldwide, speak with students, motivate the Resident Advisor team, as well as the confidence to efficiently develop processes to manage a team, drive improvement and meet performance targets.

- Day to Day running of daily operations at our student residence.
- Communicate with worldwide sales offices to quickly confirm new bookings and market the residence abroad.
- Organize the allocation and roommate assignment process to maximize available beds and achieve high occupancy rates – for residence and host families.
- Recruit, train, schedule and co-supervise a team of live-in Residence Advisors (RAs).
- Recruit new host families, coordinate visits and assist Housing Director with retention initiatives and events for local hosts.
- Create a supportive and collaborative work environment where team members feel valued and motivated to perform their best.
- Create a warm, friendly, and welcoming community atmosphere for all guests (students) with fast, efficient, and proactive customer service.
- To work and collaborate with Housing Director to build and facilitate strong operational systems and procedures to ensure a clean, safe, and happy accommodation experience for our customers.
- Ensure the satisfaction & welfare of all guests: this includes training your team and enforcing the student code of conduct.
- Establish specific, measurable goals for the team to work towards. Launch creative initiatives to increase resident satisfaction ratings and reduce maintenance response times, while delivering excellent customer service.
- Work within set budgets, negotiate with suppliers, and achieve cost savings wherever possible.
- Be an active member and representative of the Housing team.
- Collaborate with other departments within the school, regularly assisting with school-wide initiatives and events and participating in emergency-phone rotation.
- A bachelor's degree in business administration, hospitality management, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in property management, customer service, or hospitality.
- Strong organization/time management skills and strict attention to detail are necessary for managing multiple tasks, schedules, and teams efficiently.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Package.
- Ability to work independently but also as part of a team.
- Outstanding written and verbal professional communication skills.
- Comfortable working with extremely diverse populations.
- Goal-oriented and results-driven; accountable to firm deadlines.
- Cool under pressure – willing and able to take charge in an emergency, think and react quickly to address resident’s concerns, resolve conflicts and comfortable with a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
- A positive attitude, sense of humor, and empathy for others – passionate and fun!
- Flexibility – with running a large student residence there are at times weekend and evening work required
- Ability to speak multiple languages and living abroad experience are significant advantages.
