Our mission : working with families in community through holistic teaching to develop educated, responsible, compassionate people.
We are a small, rural charter school in operation for 32 years. Our valley is beautiful, and our school is unique. ERCS has small, multi-grade classes and an aide in each class. We have Chromebooks for every student and high speed, wireless internet access. ERCS has a beautiful new turf field and walking track that increased our outdoor learning environment and PE/playground area by 1/3. ERCS is located across the street from the Round Valley Branch of the Mendocino County Public Library, in the downtown corridor.
Philosophy:
Learning opportunities and accomplishments can best take place when: the student has the opportunity to exercise their own choices; when schooling is viewed as one aspect of an education; when learning is viewed as a boundless experience; and when an educational alliance is formed with a seamless web of educators, students, parents, businesses, community services, and local stakeholders- all dedicated to the learning experience.
We incorporate project-based teaching for cross-curricular, cross-grade level, and learning stage approaches to address the needs of our students. We were the first charter school in Mendocino County, chartered in 1993.
Covelo is a unique place to live and this is one of the great opportunities for a back-to-the-land setting, where a teacher can have a rewarding impact. Our valley offers diversity in all aspects of life; social, artistic, socio-economic, career, and cultural. We are a remote community with modern convenience and connection. We enjoy four seasons and border California's largest natural wilderness.
