Edwards Federal Credit Union is seeking an HR & Payroll Specialist to support day-to-day human resources and payroll operations in partnership with our Professional Employer Organization (PEO). This role is ideal for a detail-oriented HR professional who enjoys supporting employees, ensuring payroll accuracy, and helping HR processes run smoothly in a regulated environment.
Guided by our People First culture, this position serves as a trusted point of contact for employees while collaborating closely with Finance, leadership, and our PEO partners.
What You’ll Do
HR Administration & Employee Lifecycle Support
- Coordinate onboarding and offboarding activities in partnership with the PEO
- Maintain accurate, confidential employee records across internal systems and PEO platforms
- Support employee changes including promotions, compensation updates, leaves of absence, and status changes
- Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions related to payroll, benefits, and HR policies
- Assist with performance review cycles, training tracking, and employee engagement initiatives
- Support HR reporting, documentation, and recordkeeping aligned with internal controls and regulatory expectations
Payroll Coordination
- Act as the primary liaison with the PEO for payroll-related matters
- Submit and validate payroll data including new hires, terminations, pay changes, PTO, and bonuses
- Review payroll previews for accuracy and resolve discrepancies prior to processing
- Coordinate payroll corrections, off-cycle checks, and retroactive adjustments
- Partner with Finance on payroll reconciliations, reporting, and audits
Benefits Administration Support
- Coordinate benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations through the PEO
- Assist employees with benefit questions, qualifying life events, and enrollment timelines
- Support open enrollment communications and internal tracking
- Maintain benefits-related documentation and records
Employee Records & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, confidential personnel files in compliance with employment laws and credit union standards
- Ensure proper segregation and retention of personnel, medical, I-9, and payroll records
- Support internal audits, NCUA examinations, and regulatory requests by producing authorized documentation
- Administer employee personnel file requests in accordance with state requirements
What We’re Looking For
- Two-year degree or equivalent experience required
- 1–3 years of experience in payroll processing and HR operations
- Experience working with HRIS/HCM systems (PEO-supported environments preferred)
- Working knowledge of payroll, benefits administration, and HR compliance
- Basic knowledge of California employment law preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to validate payroll and personnel data
- Excellent organizational, communication, and follow-up skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities in a regulated environment

Pay: $22.22 - $27.77 per hour
