Position: Elementary Principal

Reports to: Chief Academic Officer

Employment Status: Full-time - 220 days

FLSA Status: Administrative

(Fair Labor Standards Act)

Job Description: To provide the leadership necessary to establish and maintain a program that promotes the educational development of each student at the elementary level.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in educational administration or related field
  • A valid State of Ohio Principal license, including grades K-5
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level
  • Satisfactory criminal background check in accordance with Ohio law.
  • Such alternatives to the above as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.

Preferred

  • Minimum of two years of successful experience as a school leader, such as an Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, or other related position.
  • Valid Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES) and Ohio School Counselor Evaluation System (OSCES) Credentialing
  • Certified in crisis prevention, trauma-informed behavior management

Essential Functions

  • Safety of Students and Staff:
    • Promoting the psychological and physical safety of students:
      • Ensure the safety of students.
      • Promote a positive school climate and culture.
      • Serve as a role model for both students and staff by setting high expectations for yourself and others.
      • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information (e.g., test scores, student/personnel information).
      • Provide supervision of students on school grounds and at school-sponsored events.
      • Coordinate the facilitation of required emergency drills and the creation of procedures.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Develop and implement a shared vision for the elementary school that aligns with Bexley City Schools' mission and values.
    • Lead the continuous improvement of instructional programming for continued student growth and success.
    • Use data to identify areas for improvement and implement evidence-based strategies.
    • Promotes healthy work-life balance for staff and self.
  • Core Instruction:
    • Assist in the supervision and evaluation of staff in accordance with the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES), Ohio School Counselor Evaluation System (OSCES), Ohio Principal Evaluation System (OPES), and other district priorities in order to promote equitable and rigorous outcomes for students.
    • Assist in and coordinate professional development opportunities.
    • Coordinate student activities that are aligned with students' education, wellness, and sense of belonging (e.g., field trips, field day) and serve as an instructional leader for staff.
    • Lead in the facilitation and coordination of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) process and serve as a district representative in meetings such as 504s.
    • Assist in the implementation of special education programming, including serving as the district representative at Individualized Education Programs (IEP), Evaluation Team Reports (ETR), and other special education student meetings.
    • Oversee and implement state and district assessments.
    • Develop and organize the student handbook and curricular course of study.
    • Implement culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices.
    • Continually improves the effectiveness of self and staff through study and professional development.
    • Promote the use of innovative educational technologies and methodologies.
    • Ensure curriculum alignment with state standards and district goals.
  • Operations:
    • Serve as the school's decision-maker and authority.
    • Lead the administration of the school.
    • Oversee daily operations, including scheduling, budgeting, facility management, including the playground.
    • Develop and implement structures to maximize and support staff in meeting the instructional needs of all learners.
    • Facilitates the process for district documents, volunteer applications, and any school report intended for final approval from the district administration.
    • Develop and implement attendance policies consistent with the Board of Education policies and state and federal laws.
    • Allocate resources effectively to support student learning and staff development.
    • Refine and implement appropriate disciplinary procedures and restorative practices for both students and staff.
    • Coordinates the management and preparation of the school budget
    • Coordinate the opening and closing of each school year.
    • Coordinate the development of the master schedule and organization of scheduling.
  • Equity and Cultural Responsiveness:
    • Cultural knowledge and sensitivity in decision-making.
    • Cultivates a school culture characterized by equity and inclusiveness.
    • Addresses individual and collective behaviors that disregard or defy equity and cultural responsiveness.
    • Supports and engages staff and students in the use of Restorative Practices.
  • Collaboration and Engagement with Families and Community:
    • Develop and sustain meaningful relationships with students, families, and staff.
    • Develop and maintain positive partnerships with families, community organizations, outside agencies, local resources, and all stakeholders.
    • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders about school programs, achievements, and challenges.
    • Positively represent the school at district and community events.
    • Engage families and community members in supporting student learning and school initiatives.
    • Foster a collaborative culture among staff, promoting teamwork and shared decision-making.
    • Collaborate with district leadership to align school goals with district-wide initiatives.
  • Successfully completes all district training requirements in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Required Knowledge And Use Of Equipment And Software

  • Copier, printer, scanner, laminator, and fax.
  • Keys and locking mechanisms on doors, cabinets, windows, etc.
  • District-employed software. By way of example, this includes any specific technology the District uses, including Google Education software: Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Forms, Sheets, and Google Ed products.
  • Applications (apps) or devices used to calculate numbers or used for purposes of a dictionary, thesaurus, grammar correction, or other applications accessed for this position.
  • Phone equipment and all phone functions include transferring, holding, and sending callers to voicemail.

Working Conditions

  • May occasionally be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
  • Frequent interruption of tasks to support students, staff, parents/guardians, community members, and visitors.
  • Must occasionally work nights/extended days due to school functions.
  • Must be able to assist others by moving around the school and grounds.
  • Must be able to lift and move 40 lbs.
  • Repetitive hand motion (e.g., keyboard, typing) or voice-to-text.
  • Employees shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout their employment with the District.

Salary: $106,086 - $137,305
