What is Job Corps? Job Corps is the country's most extensive nationwide residential career training program and has been operating for over 50 years. The program helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24, complete their high school education, it trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment. Job Corps has trained and educated over two million individuals since 1964.
Oneonta Job Corps offers training in the medical trades (Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, and Medical Administrative Assistant), Automobile trades (Auto Body and Auto Technician), Construction Trades (Tile Setting, Cement Mason, and Electrical), and our advanced trades (Overhead Line, Rural Underground Distribution, SMART Meter, and our Drone Program).
Position Available: Career Preparation Specialist
We are seeking a full-time Career Preparation Specialist who is reliable, compassionate, has an honorable work ethic, and also loves to work with youth! In this role, you will provide career exploration and career planning to all new students, by delivering the My Pathway to Achieving Career Excellence (MyPace) curriculum.
You will be responsible for assisting students in developing short-term and long-term goals in a classroom setting. You will make adequate preparation for classroom activities, and you'll maintain appropriate classroom management in order to ensure maximum engagement and learning of all students. You'll participate in the student performance evaluations, prepare reports, and document the student’s progress toward achieving their/our goals.
We are looking for an individual who is well organized, detail oriented, and who possesses strong presentation, oral and written communication skills. We want a team player, someone who is driven, and self motivated. This position requires proficiency in the use of common computer programs such as: Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other career, and job search programs.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Social or Human Services, Education, Counseling, or related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education, vocational training, and/or experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-to-year basis. Compensation is based on experience.
Must possess a Valid, New York State Driver's License, with an acceptable driving record.
