Position Summary
The Instructor delivers prepared, up-to-date instruction, manages classroom and lab activities, and supports student success through active engagement and retention efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach assigned courses using lesson plans and approved curriculum
- Use a variety of instructional methods and resources to enhance learning
- Maintain an organized, safe, and effective classroom/lab environment
- Monitor student progress and communicate concerns regarding attendance or performance
- Record and submit attendance, grades, and required documentation on time
- Provide students with course syllabi and evaluate assignments within established timeframes
- Assist in curriculum development and evaluation of instructional materials
- Collaborate with academic leadership to address student concerns
- Participate in student engagement activities, meetings, and institutional events (e.g., orientation, graduation)
- Maintain accurate academic records and complete midterm and final evaluations
- Ensure proper use and accountability of classroom materials and equipment
- Stay current with institutional policies, procedures, and professional development requirements
- Support program initiatives, including advisory boards when applicable
- Arrange for qualified class coverage when required (per policy)
- Perform other duties as assigned and maintain regular attendance
Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Health Information Manager
- RHIT or RHIA Certification is required
- Must have completed an accredited HIM/HIT program resulting in an associate degree, bachelor degree preferred
- Postsecondary teaching experience preferred but not required
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Reliable, team-oriented, and proactive
