As Controller, you’ll shape the financial backbone of a growing, private equity backed, energy distribution business. Your work ensures leaders, lenders, and investors can trust the numbers they use to make high‑stakes decisions and that the company can scale confidently without sacrificing control or compliance. This is a hands‑on leadership role where your judgment directly influences growth, risk, and long term value creation.
Core Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accurate, GAAP compliant financial statements delivered on a consistent timeline
- Serve as primary point of contact for external auditors, planning ahead to avoid last minute issues and surprises
- Establish and maintain accounting policies and internal controls that scale with the business and meet regulatory expectations
- Oversee tax compliance strategy in partnership with the CFO and external advisors, including audit inquiries and multi‑state requirements
- Lead and develop a nine person accounting and financial reporting team, aligning roles, responsibilities, and growth paths as the company evolves
- Maintain and optimize Sage Intacct and its integration with operational systems to support multi‑entity reporting and consolidation
- Collaborate with FP&A and the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, KPIs, and board level reporting
- Deliver clear, well supported reporting packages to the Board, equity sponsor, and lenders, including covenant compliance
Additional Responsibilities
- Act as primary liaison for minority shareholder reporting, including K‑1s
- Oversee retirement plan administration (401k) with third party providers
- Manage insurance and enterprise risk activities, including annual renewals
- Support M&A efforts, including diligence, quality of earnings, purchase accounting, and post close integration
Requirements
- CPA designation
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (or equivalent professional experience)
- 6-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including senior leadership responsibility
- Strong GAAP expertise with ownership of close, audits, and financial reporting
- Experience leading and developing an accounting team
- Public accounting background (Big 4 or top‑10 firm experience a plus)
- Experience in a private equity backed or sponsor‑owned company
- Multi entity consolidations and acquisition integration experience
- Familiarity with partnership tax structures, K‑1s, and multi‑state tax compliance
- Experience scaling accounting systems and processes in a growth environment
- Sage Intacct or similar cloud‑based ERP experience
Team & Structure
This role oversees the Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Tax function, currently a team of nine professionals.
Travel
Minimal, typically less than 15%.
