Position Summary
Youth Program Assistants promote the personal, educational and social development of young people ages 5-13 years. The Youth Program Assistant position is under the supervision of the applicable Site Coordinator. The position can be a part-time or full-time opportunity and includes management of classroom and social activities, executing lesson plans that are consistent with the educational needs of the students, tutoring or coordination with teachers, and other duties as assigned. Staff in this position are expected to facilitate programming in accordance with the goals and objectives in accordance to EMCC standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement lesson plans and activities as directed and participate in planning as requested.
- Develop weekly behavior reports that may be used in conjunction with Brightwheel app and create incident reports and accident reports if/when they occur.
- Work with the Site Coordinator and Academic Success Coach to provide young people with meaningful alternatives (e.g. educational programs, social interaction, recreational activities, and employment opportunities) that will draw them from negative lifestyles.
- Provide direct service to enrolled students by leading educational and recreational activities including tutoring, games, crafts, field trips, etc.
- Communicate the need for counseling, casework, and support services to the Site Coordinator.
- Administer daily snack/meal program.
- Support transportation process at the end of the program or act as bus/van monitor.
- Ensure that classrooms, other school areas, and vehicles are safe, clean, and well-maintained.
- Work with participants to value EMCC and school-based resources
- Work to publicize programming, activities and recruit prospective participants
- Collect daily and weekly student data and input in EZ Reports as required by EMCC and IDOE
- Perform other related responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Education Experience
- High School or equivalent required
Experience
- 1-3 years experience in childcare or school-age youth programming preferred
Skills and Competencies
- Leadership & Management skills for staff training and coaching
- Data Collection & Reporting; assists with tracking program outcomes and performance.
- Program Quality & Compliance with deadlines, licensing, and regulatory requirements
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment, and adapt to change quickly.
- Knowledge and ability to facilitate growth of the program.
- Demonstrated ability to work with various populations respectfully.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- A commitment to the mission, vision, and values of EMCC and the communities it serves.
- Hold respect and love for our community including children, teens, adults, and seniors.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Based at EMCC’s main campus with regular engagement across program, administrative, and community spaces. The ability to work across multiple departments and physical spaces within the facility while interacting with staff, clients, and community stakeholders is essential. Standard business hours apply, with occasional evening or weekend responsibilities for events or team needs.
