What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Product Manager position at edkey?
Careertakes is working with a confidential client to hire an Associate Product Manager (entry-level) to own the operational backbone of product delivery. This is a hands-on on-ramp into product management: you’ll manage the backlog, translate priorities into clear work, coordinate delivery across teams, and learn product craft by doing. The role reports into the product organization and works closely with Product Managers, Engineering, Design, QA, and Customer-facing teams.
This is a great fit for someone with 1–2 years of experience in product, project coordination, business analysis, or a related role who wants to accelerate into a PM career and who is comfortable using AI tools to move faster.
- Share ownership in grooming and managing the product and maintenance backlogs.
- Write clear, well-formed specs (user stories, acceptance criteria, requirements).
- Maintain documentation for features, releases, and internal teams.
- Run the project-management side of delivery: track items in flight, remove blockers, maintain timelines, and keep stakeholders aligned.
- Coordinate across engineering, UI/UX, QA, project management, and customer-facing teams.
- Partner with UI/UX to prepare requirements, gather feedback, and keep design and development in sync.
- Gather and organize customer feedback, product data, and inputs to support PM decisions.
- Help test and validate features before release and follow up post-release.
- Use AI tools to speed research, drafting, documentation, and execution.
- Proactively spot problems, surface them clearly, and prevent slippage.
- The backlog is consistently groomed and dev-ready: specs and tickets are clear, prioritized, and rarely bounce back for missing details.
- Releases ship on schedule, with blockers surfaced early and resolved.
- Documentation is clear enough that engineering, QA, and design rarely need clarifying questions.
- Product Managers trust you to run delivery and stakeholder coordination with minimal oversight.
Required
- 1–2 years of experience in product, project coordination, business analysis, or an adjacent role.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Self-starter who stays organized, takes initiative, and works independently in ambiguous situations.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Genuine customer empathy and interest in solving user problems.
Preferred
- Comfort reasoning about how software is built and talking with engineers.
- Hands-on experience with AI tools and a desire to push how far they can go.
- Familiarity with product and data tools (examples include ClickUp, Figma, Claude, PostHog, BigQuery, SQL) and development tools (GitHub, AWS).
- Exposure to healthcare, long-term care, or another regulated/operations-heavy domain.
Note: You don’t need to meet every preferred qualification — if you meet the required items and bring some of the preferred skills, we want to hear from you.
- You take satisfaction from order: groomed backlogs, clear tickets, and nothing slipping through the cracks.
- You prefer to take a first pass and iterate rather than wait for detailed direction.
- You’re energized by a fast, growth-stage pace and frequent context switching.
- You view this as the on-ramp to a PM career and want to master the fundamentals.
- You reach for AI tools by default to work faster and deeper.
This likely isn’t the right fit if you need detailed direction to get moving or prefer a slow, predictable workload.
- A real, structured on-ramp into product management with a clear path to PM roles.
- Close collaboration with experienced PMs on products used by many customers.
- A fast-moving, feedback-oriented team that supports each other.
- Work that matters: building software that improves operational outcomes for end users.
- Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- HSA and FSA options.
- 401(k) retirement plan.
- Flexible paid time off (PTO) and paid holidays.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of any background checks and work-authorization verification permitted by law. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
