Confidential client is a specialty risk underwriting organization seeking an Associate Actuarial Data Analyst, Reserving to support its actuarial reserving function. This early-career role focuses on data manipulation, reporting, and tool support to enable reserving analyses and decision-making. You will work alongside actuaries and data teams and be expected to use AI-enabled tools responsibly to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
This is a hybrid role (in-office at least 3 days per week). Candidates should be able to work in the US and meet any state-specific employment requirements where the role is posted.
- Apply programming and engineering fundamentals to build, test, and maintain data tools, systems, and reporting solutions for actuarial reserving.
- Develop and run reports that summarize reserving analyses and support actuarial conclusions.
- Clean, reconcile, and validate large datasets from multiple internal systems to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Write and maintain SQL queries and scripts in R or Python to transform and analyze reserving data.
- Create templates and Excel-based tools to streamline reserving workflows and reporting (advanced Excel skills).
- Support the reserving team by validating data inputs, performing variance checks, and troubleshooting data issues.
- Collaborate with actuarial, IT, and other functional teams to improve data quality, documentation, and consistency.
- Assist with ad hoc projects and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with a collaborative, high-performing culture.
- Use AI and automation tools where appropriate, applying critical judgment to interpret and validate machine-generated insights.
- Bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance (Data, Math, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or related).
- Strong data and analytical skills developed through coursework or experience in Insurance, IT, Finance, Data, or Mathematics.
- Proficiency writing SQL queries; experience coding in R and/or Python.
- Advanced Excel skills in an analytical environment (pivot tables, formulas, data validation).
- Strong attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to verify and reconcile data.
- Ability to learn and apply technical concepts, take ownership of well-defined tasks, and work within deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with peers and managers.
- Commitment to advancing technical knowledge (willingness to upskill in data engineering, analytics, and actuarial methods).
- Insurance industry experience preferred but not required; prior experience supporting reserving teams is a plus.
Actual base pay may vary and could be above or below the listed range depending on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, and skills. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $70,000 - $75,000.
Total compensation may include other components such as discretionary bonuses or additional rewards. Where applicable, the employer will comply with state and local pay transparency laws and provide required salary information.
