What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Personnel position at Edison Park Community?
Part-Time | Flexible Hours | Akron, OH
Interested in showing us what you can do? We are open to arranging a paid working interview where you can demonstrate your skills while being compensated for your time.
Looking for steady, flexible maintenance work without being tied to a full-time schedule?
Edison Park Community is seeking an experienced, well-rounded handyman to help complete maintenance, apartment turnover, and property improvement projects across our apartment portfolio in Akron.
We're looking for someone who can work independently, troubleshoot common property maintenance issues, and complete repairs correctly without requiring constant supervision.
This may be a great fit for someone who is semi-retired, currently works in maintenance and is looking for additional income, operates a handyman or repair business, or simply prefers flexible, project-based work.
What You'll Be Doing
Work will include a combination of scheduled property improvement projects, apartment turnover work, and general maintenance, such as:
- Drywall repair and patching
- Interior painting and touch-ups
- Faucet, toilet, and plumbing fixture replacement
- Minor plumbing repairs
- Caulking tubs, showers, sinks, and other areas
- Installing or replacing light fixtures, ceiling fans, and hardware
- Door adjustments, locksets, and door sweeps
- Window screens and minor trim repairs
- Minor flooring repairs
- General punch-list items following property inspections
- Preparing apartments for new residents
- Troubleshooting and completing miscellaneous maintenance repairs
- Assisting with urgent maintenance issues when needed
This is not a full-time maintenance position with a constant stream of daily work orders. Much of the work is planned in advance, allowing you to organize projects and work efficiently.
Schedule & Availability
We offer flexibility, but we are looking for someone who can provide consistent weekly availability.
Applicants should be available:
- Two days during the week for scheduled maintenance, repairs, turnovers, and improvement projects
- At least one day each weekend for emergency maintenance coverage
- Approximately 8–20 hours per week, depending on current projects and property needs
- Additional hours may be available during apartment turnovers or larger projects
Weekday hours are flexible. We can work with the right person to establish two regular weekdays that fit both schedules.
Weekend availability does not necessarily mean working a scheduled full day. You would need to be reachable and reasonably available to respond if an emergency maintenance situation occurs during your designated coverage day.
We're Looking For Someone Who...
- Shows up when they say they will
- Can reliably provide the required weekday and weekend availability
- Has solid experience in multiple maintenance or construction trades
- Can troubleshoot common property maintenance problems
- Works efficiently without constant supervision
- Takes pride in quality workmanship
- Communicates clearly about project status, materials needed, and problems encountered
- Keeps projects moving and follows through to completion
- Has reliable transportation
- Has their own basic tools
- Can safely perform the physical requirements of property maintenance work
Especially Valuable Experience
Experience in any of the following is a plus:
- Apartment or rental-property maintenance
- Carpentry
- Drywall repair
- Plumbing repairs
- Electrical fixture replacement
- Painting
- Apartment turnovers
- General handyman services
- Historic property maintenance and repair
Compensation
- Competitive hourly pay based on experience
- Paid bi-weekly
- Consistent part-time work
- Flexible weekday scheduling
- Opportunity for additional hours during apartment turnovers and larger projects
