Job Description of the Exceptional Children Behavior Support Lead

Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools 



Reports to: Director of Exceptional Children

 

Supervises:  None

 

Purpose: The Exceptional Children Behavior Support Lead is responsible for creating a positive learning environment for students.  The Exceptional Children Behavior Support Lead will help resolve behavior problems that interfere with gaining the greatest benefit from the school’s educational opportunities.  

 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Monitor compliance of PRC 29 Grant; maintain and submit all records required by NCDPI
  • Attend Regional Behavior Support Meetings
  • Complete observations
  • Complete a variety of assessments to assist school teams in decision making
  • Provide data-based behavioral consultation to teachers and school teams
  • Develop and write required reports
  • Train staff in best practice methods (including deescalation and physical restraint)
  • Assist schools with developing crisis teams and crisis response protocols
  • Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues by modeling and coaching 
  • Support policies, rules and regulations established by Elizabeth City Pasquotank Public Schools
  • Work cooperatively and communicate with the principal, school counselor, nurse, staff, students and parents towards a positive school climate
  • Participate in or lead professional development for positive behavior support systems and development of intervention strategies
  • Participate on district level teams/committees as requested
  • Work successfully and positively with identified students to provide them with assistance in meeting their educational needs
  • Ensure that IEP Behavioral mandates are fulfilled
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time
  • Must be able to stoop, squat, bend, twist, stretch, turn, lift, and carry
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions
  • Must be courteous and pleasant with students, parents, faculty and staff
  • Must be able to establish and maintain good working relationships
  • Must be able to motivate students
  • Must maintain confidentiality

Training and Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, Human Services or a related field Preferred
  • Experience working with students with behavioral disorders
  • Classroom teaching experience preferred

 

Salary: Grade 69

            Salary Range $26.77 - $36.40 per hour

            Full-time 11 month employment
