Job Summary

The Charge Nurse (RN) provides shift-level leadership and oversight to support the delivery of safe, high-quality nursing care and treatment services. This role coordinates nursing operations during assigned shifts, supports staffing and workflow management, assists with admissions and discharges, and promotes compliance with clinical, regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. The Charge Nurse serves as a key resource to nursing staff and acts as a liaison between frontline nursing personnel and nursing leadership to support continuity of care, operational efficiency, and positive client outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide shift-level leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff during assigned shifts.
• Coordinate nursing workflow, staffing assignments, and operational activities to ensure continuity of client care.
• Assist with staffing coverage, scheduling concerns, call-offs, and on-call coordination as needed.
• Support admissions, transfers, discharges, and related nursing coordination activities.
• Communicate client care concerns, staffing issues, and operational updates to nursing leadership.
• Assist with orientation, onboarding, and training of new nursing staff.
• Promote compliance with nursing standards, medication administration requirements, HIPAA, licensing regulations, and accreditation standards.
• Support preparation for licensing, regulatory, and accreditation surveys.
• Respond to and assist in resolving client, staff, and operational concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment team members to support quality care and continuity of services.
• Must exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality with regard to all company information.
• Completion of all required trainings as designated by the company and accreditation/licensing entities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides shift-level supervision, direction, coaching, and support to nursing staff to promote safe care delivery, operational effectiveness, and compliance with program policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Licensure, Education, & Experience: Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible in the state of practice required.
• Demonstrated leadership skills including organization, prioritization, and time management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of nursing supervision, HIPAA regulations, and state licensing requirements.
• Familiarity with CARF or other healthcare accreditation standards preferred.
• Prior experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or inpatient care settings preferred.
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certification as required by facility.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, use hands to handle equipment and medical supplies, and assist clients as needed. The employee must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and seldom lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily in inpatient, residential, healthcare, and behavioral health treatment environments serving individuals with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and co-occurring disorders. Employees may encounter exposure to medical equipment, medications, bodily fluids, communicable illnesses, and behavioral health crises. Shift work, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities may be required based on operational needs.

Compensation

Pay: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour
