Job Summary
The Sr. Electrical Distribution Engineer is responsible for leading and participating in the development and implementation of electrical designs for industrial and commercial electrical utility facilities. This includes reviewing or preparing data and running specialty programs for the electrical design. The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the development of the electrical requirements of all project phases, including conceptual, preliminary, final engineering and potentially operational support. This also includes coordinating with other disciplines to accomplish project tasks. In addition, the Senior Electrical Engineer will be part of the project management process, which would include working directly with the Project Manager, meeting with clients, obtaining field data, interaction with equipment vendors, participating in project meetings, establishing project standards and assisting in the development of the project design criteria. This also includes coordinating with and directing Engineers, Designers and Drafters to accomplish project tasks.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee, track and report on all aspects of an electrical team assigned to a project
- Prepare detailed plans, technical specifications, and reports
- Perform calculations and process data using computer software or other established methods to support electrical engineering and control system design efforts
- Document all calculations
- Gather equipment data and specifications and interpret as required to incorporate into the design documents
- Conform and promote conformance to EDG, client standards, and best practices
- Prepare cost estimates for design implementation based on project requirements and client needs
- Design power distribution systems based on utility requirements and project requirements, including, but not limited to:
- Design of low voltage, medium and high voltage distribution systems
- Identify best practices for power distribution to eliminate safety issues and provide cost effective solutions for clients
- Identify potential safety hazards, such as Arc Flash issues, and implement design changes to correct such issues
- Direct Electrical Designers in developing power distribution drawings and documents
- Design lighting and lighting power systems based on project requirements, local codes, and client requirements;
- Direct work of Electrical Designers including explaining project requirements and design concepts to Electrical Designers, Drafters, and clients;
- Provide support for client as required and directed by project manager, including, but not limited to:
- Document conversations with clients where any design decision is made;
- Identify project change orders and share with management as appropriate prior to completion of work;
- When appropriate, discuss additional cost or the potential for additional costs when changes are requested;
- Coach and mentor junior staff to appropriate communications regarding cost with clients.
- May perform necessary field work to obtain accurate information for the design; travelling to project locations, duration dictated by project requirements and/or logistics

Basic or Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications, Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
- BS in Electrical Engineering required, MS preferred
- PE registration in one or more states is preferred
- At least ten (10) years’ related experience required
- Work history that demonstrates experience with performing design tasks and project resource management (staffing and scheduling) simultaneously to meet the cost, time, resource requirements of a project
- Familiarity with all electrical and control systems and all applicable industry codes and standards
- Working knowledge of the NEC and other regulatory standards
- Ability to understand and perform basic calculations
- Ability to understand and utilize client or company provided specifications
- Ability to utilize applicable engineering software and established technical tools
- Ability and availability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability and availability to work overtime as needed based on project
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information verbally and in writing to different audiences (electrical design staff, clients, etc.)
- Basic Microsoft Office skills with proficiency in Excel required
- Ability to interact with staff at all levels
Preferred Qualifications
MS, Electrical Engineering
PE registration in one or more states
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private Office) but also requires occasional travel to off-site work locations;
- Field duties require outdoor work in a construction site type atmosphere;
- Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel;
- Working on a construction site or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels
- Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
- May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes;
- May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.
