JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Responsible for engineering design and support for power distribution. Performs a wide variety of planning, maintenance, and design engineering activities related to routine, non-routine, and emergency restoration duties. Project areas may include grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform load flow analysis and circuit coordination analysis utilizing SynerGEE.
- Identify and develop a plan to correct Un-Balanced loads on distribution circuits.
- Develop settings, program, and size all field equipment including but not limited to Reclosers, Fuses, Capacitors, and Regulators.
- Review all new distributed energy resource technical documents and customer equipment to ensure compliance with Entergy’s standards and policies.
- Perform Root Cause Failure Analysis on failures with unknown causes.
- Develop planned switching orders for the network.
- Troubleshoot power quality issues.
- Provide technical guidance to the Engineering Associates and local area line groups.
- Create, Review, and recommend for approval electrical designs that meet customer needs, comply with company standards and enhance the overall system performance and reliability.
- Participate in meetings with external customers, architects, developers, contractors and government entities to communicate standards and guidelines.
- Perform engineering calculations to aid in planning and corrective measure projects.
- Assist with storm restoration efforts both local and out of town.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical, Industrial) from four year accredited institution. Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four year accredited institution with PE may be considered.
Minimum experience required of the position
- Engineer III - 4-6 years experience in an engineering discipline.
- Engineer Sr - 6 years experience in an engineering discipline.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
- Knowledge of engineering principles
- Ability to understand and comply with procedures, programs, and standards within the assigned area
- Good leadership and interpersonal skills, with strong written and oral communication abilities
- Excellent math and problem-solving skills
- Good project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities
- Good knowledge of personal computer operations and related software
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Commitment to working safely and following all company safety policies and procedures
- Ability to recognize and mitigate workplace hazards
- Ability to interact with the public in a pleasant and professional manner, with a focus on customer service
- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment
- Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement and implement changes
Certifications & Licenses
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Working Conditions:
Must be available for 24 hour call out and extended hours as necessary.
