Position Overview
The Process Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant equipment and processes while maintaining full compliance with all company standards and applicable government regulations. This role provides leadership to the maintenance function, including oversight of the Maintenance Manager and team, and is accountable for prioritizing and executing maintenance and capital projects, managing preventative and predictive maintenance programs, and optimizing the use of the FMX system. Success in this position is defined by the ability to respond promptly and effectively to equipment breakdowns and repair needs, minimize downtime, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and support overall production and operational goals.
The Plant Engineer is a valued member of the EDCOAT Maintenance team. This full-time, exempt position is based in New Carlisle, IN and reports to the Director of Operations. This is a position with normal working hours of Monday to Friday between 7:00AM - 5:00PM, with frequent days of being on call.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Lead and manage the Maintenance Team, including oversight of the Maintenance Manager; establish and prioritize maintenance and capital projects, develop and track project schedules, oversee preventative and predictive maintenance programs, and manage the FMX system (work orders, asset tracking, and reporting) to optimize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Monitor spare parts inventory and initiate requisitions as needed to ensure availability of critical components and minimize production disruptions.
- Enforce safety policies and procedures with Maintenance Technicians while ensuring compliance with OSHA and all applicable regulatory standards.
- Establish, review, and adjust work procedures to align with production schedules, maintenance priorities, equipment availability, and workforce capabilities.
- Compile and analyze plant data to generate reports in compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Serve as project manager for capital improvements and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Maintain and develop plant drawings, engineering standards, and operating procedures to support safe and efficient operations.
- Design, implement, and improve systems, processes, and equipment to enhance operational performance and reliability.
- Develop and support predictive and preventative maintenance programs to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
- Investigate safety incidents, quality issues, and production delays; identify root causes and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct research and analysis to develop and implement new or improved manufacturing processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems to maintain production efficiency.
- Evaluate plant processes and equipment to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Competencies

- Equipment Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance on Paintline and related equipment.
- Judgment and Decision Making: Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to ensure the quality of coating and line rolls and compliance for wastewater discharges.
- Repairing: Repairing Paintline equipment or related systems using appropriate tools.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from college or university preferred. (Engineering degree is preferred)
- Four to six years of experience in various aspects of electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment required.
- Entire facility oversight preferred.
Physical Demands

- Plant Engineer / Maintenance Manager is scheduled to work 8 hour shifts weekly with expected overtime during project or downtime periods.
- Requires extended periods of walking and standing on concrete surfaces, extended periods of stooping, bending, crouching, or crawling, frequent ascending and descending stairs, and frequent reaching with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift up to 75 pounds from floor to waist level and push/pull up to 75 pounds.
Work Environment
- The Plant Engineer / Maintenance Manager position holds a moderate to high risk of minor physical injury (cuts, bruises, and minor ailments) to self and others due to daily exposure to paint, and solvent fumes and to sharp edges and pinch points.
- The Maintenance Supervisor / Manager position holds a small to moderate risk of serious physical injury (major cuts, abrasions, and limb breakage or loss) to self and others due to the risk of electrical shock and due to moving mechanical parts and rotating machinery.
- Extreme caution must be exercised when working around moving / rotating machinery or metal strip.
- Personal Protective Equipment will be worn as needed in compliance with Company standards and government regulations.
