Temporary Human Resources Support Specialist (Non-Exempt)

Location: Litchfield, CT

Work Schedule

This is a temporary, part-time position scheduled to work up to 15 hours per week. The schedule will be established in advance in coordination with the Director of Human Resources and maybe worked on any day, Monday through Friday during regular business hours. This position is not on-call.

Pay Rate: $32.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Temporary Human Resources Support Specialist provides administrative and operational support to the Human Resources department. This role is responsible for processing employee data, maintaining records, supporting recruitment and onboarding activities, and responding to routine employee inquiries. The position follows established procedures and guidelines and escalates complex issues to appropriate HR staff. This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable law.

Major Responsibilities

  • Process employment-related transactions, including new hire onboarding, employee status changes, separations, and HRIS data entry, in accordance with established procedures
  • Maintain, organize, and update employee personnel files (electronic and/or paper) to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with recordkeeping requirements
  • Serve as a point of contact for employees by responding to routine questions regarding HR policies, procedures, and benefits; refer complex or sensitive matters to appropriate HR staff
  • Follow established HR policies, procedures, to support consistent practices across the organization
  • Support compliance activities by maintaining accurate records (e.g., I-9 documentation, onboarding paperwork) and tracking required deadlines
  • Coordinate new hire onboarding by collecting required documentation and following up on missing items prior to start dates
  • Assist with recruitment activities, including posting job openings, scheduling onboarding, and communicating with candidates
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of employee and payroll-related information
  • Provide fingerprinting services and stay current with compliance and required training, certifications, and clearances
  • Assist with benefits-related administrative tasks, including responding to routine inquiries and supporting open enrollment activities
  • Perform other administrative and clerical duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of administrative or HR support experience
  • Basic knowledge of HR practices and employment laws; ability to apply established policies and procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with HRIS systems (e.g., Munis or similar platforms) preferred
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while following established guidelines
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position
