Summary

'Health Informatics Specialist' is a vital role at Baker County Medical Services, focusing on managing and analyzing health data to improve patient care and operational efficiency.

The Health Informatics Specialist is responsible for managing, analyzing, and optimizing Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems to enhance patient care, improve operational efficiency, and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. This role collaborates with clinical staff, IT teams, and administrators to design workflows, integrate data systems, and leverage health information technology to support organizational goals.

Essential Function

  • Collaborate with departments to integrate data from various sources into and out of the EMR system (e.g., Meditech Expanse). Work with clinical and IT staff to ensure seamless integration between the EMR system and other healthcare applications (e.g., laboratory systems, billing systems).
  • Support the design, deployment, and maintenance of a data repository and interface engine for the EMR and regulatory agencies (e.g., Florida Department of Health and CMS).
  • Analyze and interpret EMR data to identify trends, improve clinical workflows, and support decision-making.
  • Design, implement, and maintain EMR systems to ensure usability, data integrity, and interoperability.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to customize EMR templates, reports, and dashboards to meet specific departmental needs.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, Meaningful Use, and other data privacy standards.
  • Support integration of health IT systems using standards like HL7, DICOM, FHIR, or CCD.
  • Conduct data quality audits and implement solutions for the EMR, data repository, and interface engine.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures for health information management.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot EMR-related issues for end-users.
  • Stay updated on emerging health informatics trends, tools, and regulatory changes.
  • Provide support to other IT staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Informatics or related field recommended.
  • Clinical background or experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Three to five years of information systems experience preferred.
  • AHIMA, CHDA or related certifications recommended.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in EMR platforms (Meditech, Epic, Cerner, or similar; Meditech preferred).
  • Knowledge of data analytics tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau, Python).
  • Familiarity with health IT standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM, ICD-10, CPT).
  • Proficiency in integration engines (e.g. Mirth, Nifi, Corepoint).
  • Ability to take initiative and be self-motivated.
  • Demonstrate an adaptable, flexible attitude and problem-solving skills by approaching challenges from multiple perspectives.
  • Understanding of information technology and EMR system.
  • Possess hardware and software trouble-shooting skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Developed skills in examination and analysis.
  • Moderately proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and prioritize scheduling of work.
  • Complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
