Veterinary Technician - Surgery Focus
ECoVets Veterinary Specialists & Emergency – St. Augustine, FL
ECoVets Veterinary Specialists & Emergency is seeking a skilled and motivated Veterinary Surgery Technician to join our rapidly growing specialty hospital in St. Augustine, Florida. Our privately owned hospital offers a collaborative environment, a beautiful new facility, and state-of-the-art equipment designed to support advanced patient care.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with two highly skilled surgeons who enjoy teaching and mentoring technicians, while developing advanced surgical and anesthesia skills.
What You’ll Do
Our surgery technicians are essential members of the surgical team and will:

Scrub into surgical procedures and assist the surgeons

Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and sterile fields

Manage instrument sterilization and surgical suite protocols

Perform and monitor general anesthesia
-
Assist with pre-operative and post-operative patient care
-
Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (~1 weekend per month) for surgical emergencies

Schedule Options
Flexible scheduling options are available:

4 × 10-hour shifts, or
-
3 × 12-hour shifts
Technicians participate in a rotating on-call schedule (~1 weekend per month). Additional earning opportunities are available through emergency surgery incentives.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:

At least 2 years of experience working as a veterinary technician
-
Anesthesia experience (required)
A strong technical foundation including:
-
Patient restraint and handling
-
Venipuncture and phlebotomy
-
Anesthesia monitoring and anesthesia calculations
-
Knowledge of medications and pharmacology
-
Diagnostic imaging
-
Laboratory and hematology skills
CVT/LVT/RVT certification is encouraged, and VTS certification is highly valued.

Qualifications:Qualifications
- Completion of high school or equivalent required
- Veterinary certification or equivalent experience
- Basic tech skills (i.e. placing IVCs, drawing blood, setting up kennels)
- Knowledge of surgical instruments and equipment used (or the capacity and desire to learn knowledge)
- Knowledge of surgical procedures and postoperative care
- Knowledge of sterility
- Knowledge of medications
- Experienced surgical anesthesia monitoring
- Attention to detail
- Ability to arrive on time and ready to work
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to lift/move heavy object as needed
- Ability to restrain animals
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
