Outdoor Lighting & Irrigation Technician
Location: Sterling, VA (On-site)

About the Role
Hydro-Tech Irrigation is one of Northern Virginia’s leading irrigation and outdoor lighting service companies, serving high-end residential communities throughout the region. We are expanding our Outdoor Lighting division and seeking a dependable Outdoor Lighting & Irrigation Technician to support installation, troubleshooting, and seasonal service operations.
This position focuses primarily on low-voltage outdoor lighting installation and service, with the flexibility to assist in irrigation service during peak seasons.
What You’ll Do
Outdoor Lighting (Primary Focus)
• Install low-voltage lighting systems including fixtures, wiring, transformers, and timers
• Diagnose and troubleshoot lighting failures and wiring issues
• Perform lighting system inspections and maintenance
• Read and execute lighting designs accurately
• Educate homeowners on system operation and maintenance
• Assist in training team members on lighting fundamentals
Irrigation (Seasonal Support)
• Perform spring start-ups and winterizations
• Diagnose and repair leaks, valves, heads, controllers, and wiring
• Install irrigation controllers and rain sensors
• Complete repairs efficiently and professionally
Customer Service & Documentation
• Explain findings and repair options clearly to homeowners
• Present pricing prior to performing work
• Document work completed in CRM software
• Collect payment upon job completion
• Maintain a clean and professional job site
Must-Have Qualifications
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Professional communication skills
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
• Comfortable working on ladders up to 50 feet
• Comfortable performing work in and around Washington, DC
Nice-to-Have Skills
• Electrical experience
• Irrigation or backflow certifications
• Experience using hand tools, trenching equipment, or performing landscape work
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to dig and trench when required
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and work outdoors daily
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions including rain, heat, and cold
