Description/Responsibilities

We are excited to welcome an Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager to our Lancaster, PA team!

This position will make a vital impact on our organization by developing and implementing safety processes, training and procedures for multiple facilities across an assigned geography according to applicable regulations and Ecore policy.

Salary: Starting at $98,000 and up, based on experience

The Impact You'll Make

Safety Management

  • Develop and implement preventative engineering and safety programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with OSHA and DOT regulations to mitigate workplace hazards and prevent accidents.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide safety training to employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Provide employee-based annual testing (i.e., hearing, fit testing) assigned facilities.

Environmental Management

  • Oversee environmental compliance activities, including waste management, pollution prevention, and emissions monitoring.
  • Develop and implement strategies to minimize the environmental impact of site operations, such as energy conservation and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Monitor environmental performance metrics and report on progress towards sustainability goals.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures for various scenarios, including fires, chemical spills, and natural disasters.
  • Conduct drills and simulations to test the effectiveness of emergency response plans and train employees in proper procedures.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact during emergencies and coordinate with external agencies as needed.

Risk Management

  • Identify potential EH&S risks and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of EH&S programs. Identify areas for improvement. Create plan for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate EH&S considerations into business processes and decision-making.

Communication

  • Communicate EH&S policies, procedures, and best practices to all levels of the organization.
  • Manage local programs (safety committee, 1st responders) to help identify potential problems and to take a proactive approach to safety.
  • Foster a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement through effective communication and engagement (e.g., shop talks)

Incident Investigation and Reporting

  • Follow established protocols for investigating EH&S incidents, including accidents, near misses, and environmental releases. Analyze root causes of incidents and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare and submit EH&S reports to regulatory agencies, corporate management, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Coordinate workers compensation claim with corporate resources including managing light-duty work and return-to-work.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Stay updated on relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Ensure site operations comply with all applicable EH&S regulations and standards.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and participate in inspections and audits as necessary.
  • Develop reporting (i.e., OSHA/ EPA compliance, permitting). Maintain OSHA logbook and analyze for trends and/or common injuries by demographics/characteristics. Annually post the OSHA 300A Log summary form as required by law.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e. ., Certified Safety Professional) preferred.
  • 5 years experience in health and safety management, preferably in the transportation industry or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations, OSHA requirements, and other relevant health and safety standards.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks and develop effective mitigation strategies. Experience with workers compensation claims management.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Analytical skills evidenced by examples of good decision-making.
  • Must have the interpersonal skills necessary to work and communicate effectively with people at all levels of the company; includes effectively presenting information to large and small groups with an emphasis on influencing behaviors.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage complex activities.
  • Must be able to work with and manage confidential information.
  • Knowledge of workers compensation claims management.
  • Ability to conduct training on various safety related topics.
  • Ability to travel to other locations as required up to 80% of the time.
