General Summary:
The Marketing Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing a variety of outreach efforts across digital and traditional media and at in-person events. This role is instrumental in communicating critical information about recycling and waste management to a diverse audience in compelling, accessible ways. The person taking on this role will foster positive relationships with residents, customers, and stakeholders in ecomaine member and owner communities, creating and disseminating messaging that increases awareness and adoption of effective solid waste management & recycling practices.
Essential Job Functions:
- Under the supervision of the Director of Communications & Public Affairs, the Marketing Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing online educational materials and campaigns about the benefits of recycling and other sustainable waste management strategies.
- The Marketing Coordinator’s goal will be to expand ecomaine’s audience by using tools that include but are not limited to: social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok); website (Wordpress; Google Analytics); ecomaine’s Recyclopedia, photo/video collateral; marketing and educational outreach materials; graphic design programs (Canva, Adobe, and more); and direct in-person outreach (community events, tours).
The Marketing Coordinator also:
- Provides key performance indicator (KPI) monthly reports to the Director for organization’s Board and leadership
- Maintains a brand guide for all assets.
- Stays abreast of latest developments and trends in the marketing/social media landscape and regarding the municipal solid waste and recycling industry to effectively engage audiences with up-to-date information.
- Contributes to the overall expertise of the department and organization and leads continuous improvement of ecomaine’s education and outreach messaging, materials and tools, including the Recyclopedia app.
- Maintains SEO and website updates.
- Contributes to event and campaign planning.
- Contributes to ecomaine’s customer service efforts by responding to inquiries via social media, email, and phone, as needed.
- Provides representation at appropriate opportunities to further its goal of effective waste management education, including through the design of ecomaine educational collateral, or at events or tours of ecomaine.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Director or ecomaine leadership.
Skills/Experience/Training Required:
- Bachelors’ Degree related to social and digital media (such as Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design, etc.) or an equivalent amount of education and experience providing the desired skills, knowledge and ability to perform the function.
- Must have demonstrable professional experience in creating, overseeing, and reporting on impact of social and digital media campaigns.
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work with diverse stakeholders.
- Creative, outgoing, flexible, well-organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Problem-solver who’s excited about figuring out new technologies and overcoming unique challenges
- Collaborative team player on a mission-driven communications team.
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed (hours flexed to maintain a 40-hour work week)
- An interest in sustainable waste management and willingness to get curious and develop expertise in a new industry
- Able to work effectively with all levels within ecomaine and members of a diverse public.
- Valid State of Maine driver’s license and insurable under ecomaine policies.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Employment at ecomaine is completed on-site (not a hybrid or remote role)
- Sitting, standing, work at a computer terminal, using stairs/elevator, and light lifting may all be required.
