I. Position Description
Directs and coordinates loading, unloading, storing, transferring, and distributing materials and in the operations of a battery wrecking facility which includes conveying, crushing, and separating equipment used in the recovery of lead and plastic from automotive batteries.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for crew safety. Monitors wrecker and processing of odd material to ensure that procedures are followed to ensure the safety of employees and environment.
- Responsible for related paperwork such as timecards, production reports and safety reports, and training topics.
- Monitors operations continuously to ensure production goals are accomplished, and also mentoring training schedules.
- Reports inoperable and malfunctioning equipment and completing maintenance work requests.
- Maintains Wrecker staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees. Maintains Wrecker staff job results by coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring and appraising job results.
- Monitors operation of battery wrecking equipment and yard equipment to ensure environmental compliance and proper operation. Inspects machines and equipment and monitors maintenance and repair work.
- Maintains time and production records.
- Interprets company policies for workers and enforces safety regulations. Explains job orders to workers and assigns duties. Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials. Responsible for completing the standard work instructions (SWI).
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules. Recommends changes to increase efficiency of shop, department, and work crew. Analyzes and assists in grievance resolution. Initiates and suggests plans to increase worker motivation to achieve work goals.
- Complies with all environmental, health, safety and housekeeping programs.
- Other duties, as assigned.
II. Qualifications
A. PRE-HIRE REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent interpersonal communications skills; written and verbal
- 2 years college with emphasis in Science or related courses recommended but not required
- 2-5 years Supervisor experience
- Proficient computer skills
B. POST-HIRE TRAINING
- Environmental training applicable to the job
- Safety training for applicable equipment
- Job instructional training
- Quality system familiarization
- ISO 14001 awareness, EMS objectives and targets, plant significant environmental impacts.
- OHSAS 18001 Awareness, OH&S-MS Objectives and Goals, Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control
III. Physical Requirements & Work Environment
A. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
B. WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
* If duties require entry to an arsenic or cadmium controlled area, appropriate respiratory protection must be worn.
