Overview
A global manufacturing company is undertaking a major warehouse automation programme and is seeking an experienced SAP EWM MFS Lead to drive the design, integration, and optimisation of automated warehouse operations.
This is a hands-on role focused on Material Flow System (MFS) within SAP EWM, working at the intersection of SAP, warehouse automation, and control systems (PLC). You will take ownership of the EWM-MFS layer, ensuring seamless communication between SAP and automated equipment such as conveyors, AS/RS, and robotics systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the EWM MFS lead for an automated warehouse environment, owning end-to-end solution design and delivery
- Design, configure, and optimise SAP EWM MFS including:
- Communication channels (TCP/IP)
- Telegram structures and message mapping
- PLC integration and error handling
- Integrate SAP EWM with warehouse control systems (WCS) and PLCs (e.g. Siemens, Allen-Bradley)
- Support and lead automation workflows across conveyors, sorters, AS/RS, and picking systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve real-time MFS issues impacting warehouse execution and throughput
- Work closely with automation vendors, controls engineers, and SAP teams to ensure seamless system integration
- Participate in and lead design workshops, defining MFS architecture and best practices
- Drive testing cycles (SIT/UAT) with a focus on automation scenarios and high-volume transaction flows
- Monitor and optimise system performance, throughput, and latency across automated processes
- Provide expert guidance on exception handling, queue management, and system recovery strategies
- Support go-live and hypercare, ensuring stable and efficient warehouse operations
Required Experience
- 5 years SAP experience with strong focus on SAP EWM
- Proven hands-on experience with SAP EWM MFS (Material Flow System)
- Experience integrating SAP with automated warehouse equipment:
- Conveyors
- AS/RS systems
Nice to Have
- Experience working with WCS/MES systems
- Exposure to automation vendors (e.g. Dematic, SSI Schaefer, Daifuku, KNAPP)
- Previous end-to-end implementation or greenfield automation project experience
