Responsibilities:
- ESX hardware refresh: In 2026, need to build ~90 hypervisors in the new infrastructure, decom ~200 hypervisors from existing infrastructure, and migrate ~ 1000 virtual machines.
- ESX SB build: In 2027, we'll start to build ESX in SB and migrate the existing VMs from RR.
- CVEs - often CVEs require VMware Tools upgrade and turning down clients' VMs. The contractor can help upgrade VMware Tools and work with our clients for maintenance windows
- ESX KTLO and ONCL. The duty includes hypervisor maintenance, capacity expansion for clients, and assisting clients for VM maintenance (BB Github). In case of production issues, we expect the contractor to remediate the issue and trouble shoot the root cause.
- Nice to have: ESX Hypervisor Build Automation: Currently ESX hypervisor build is a lengthy manual process. We aim to create more automation for ESX hypervisor build so when we move to SB the cluster will be set up faster.
- Core ESX:
- VMware ESXi & vCenter:
- Installation, configuration and upgrades.
- Host profiles, clusters, and lifecycle management.
- HA, DRS, vMotion, Storage vMotion.
- Production troubleshooting and root-cause analysis with Aria Operations and vCenter / ESXi logs.
- VM Provisioning:
- Templates, snapshots, cloning, resizing.
- Provisioning with customer OVF / OVAs.
- Storage:
- SAN / NAS technologies: iSCSI, HBA, multipathing.
- NFS datastores.
- Networking:
- Distributed switches, VLANs, understanding of firewalls and routing basics.
- Understanding of DNS, DHCP, and IPAM. Experience with EIP (EfficientIP) is a plus.
- Automation & Scripting:
- Scripting basics - PowerShell / PowerCLI (highly valued), Bash, and basic Python.
- Infrastructure as Code - Experience with Ansible / Apache Airflow is a plus.
- Securities: patching & CVE management, familiarity with VMWare tools update / upgrade.
