What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nursing Supervisor position at EBEN EZER LUTHERAN CARE CENTER?
Primary Job Purpose:
To ensure the safe and efficient operation of the care center neighborhoods.
Essential Job Functions:
- Practice the Values, the Mission, and Philosophy of Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center and adhere to the MOSES program to include Mission, Ownership, Success, Excellence and Service
- Review 24-hour report/communications in EMR and update the report to be presented to interdisciplinary team for review.
- Attend neighborhood shift report daily, noting status change of neighbors (both physical and mental).
- Makes rounds at the beginning of shift, evaluating critical and problem areas and acquiring information necessary to apprise physicians. Confers with charge nurse to accumulate further knowledge of areas that need addressed by supervisor or physician, reports and records same.
- Apprises physician of neighbors’ condition and receives direction for both acute and chronic ailments.
- Assist Neighborhood Charge Nurse’s to assess lab results and notify physician as necessary and posts lab results to neighbor charts.
- Receives new admissions. Performs or co-signs neighbor physical assessment. Notifies physician of admission and assumes responsibility for receiving and initiating all orders.
- Is available to physician to make rounds and is responsible for assisting Neighborhood Charge Nurses to record and initiate new orders.
- Demonstrates proficiency in using the computer for all clinical documentation and completes assessments timely and accurately.
- Accurately and concisely documents in the patients’ health record findings, instructions and services rendered.
- Is available as nursing resource person for Charge Nurses, CNA’s and other departments.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable and pleasant environment within the nursing department by encouraging adherence to established standards and promoting cooperation with other departments. Notes appearance of rooms.
- Assures that nursing duties are completed and that equipment is in working condition and in compliance with recognized standards. This includes removing expired and discontinued medications from the med room and assuring that CNA and EA duties are completed.
- Responsible for replacing nursing team member call-ins when Director of Nursing or CNA Supervisor is not present.
- Provides leadership in emergency situations through assessment and team member delegation and notifies the neighbor’s family and physician as necessary.
- Delegates only those duties which can be safely and legally delegated.
- Assists with periodic evaluation of auxiliary personnel.
- Assist Neighborhood Charge Nurse’s to assess, monitor, and document wound care.
- Supports and assists the charge nurses in supervision of team members, conflict resolution, and efficient daily operation of the neighborhood.
- In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing .
- Implement and provide neighbor and employee vaccination programs.
- Responsible for preparing discharge documents and reviewing and completing discharge checklist.

Education and Experience:
Graduate of an approved school of nursing, currently licensed as a registered nurse in Colorado. Possesses bedside skills needed to provide quality care and to supervise care given by others. Has a good working knowledge of general nursing principles and techniques including geriatric and rehabilitative nursing, with some supervisory and decision-making experience. Has the knowledge, ability and the willingness to assist in orientation of new team members and the continuing education of the nursing team. Understands the Eden Alternative Principles and is able to lead others in implementing person-directed care.
Non-Essential Job Functions:
- May participate in Eben Ezer committees.
- Will attend facility meetings and department meetings as instructed.

Material and Equipment used but not limited to:
- Equipment associated with patient care, such as lifts, tubs, wheelchairs, Geri chairs, gait belts, specialty beds, blood pressure cuff, etc.
- Use of telephone, computer, and nurse call system.
Working Environment/Physical Activities:
- Must be able to push/pull up to 250 pounds regularly using a wheelchair. Must be able to lift 0-50 pounds regularly by self and 50 pounds occasionally with assistance.
- Frequently walks, stands, bends, lifts, pushes.
- Employee will be working in a busy clinical environment which includes being on feet up to 90% of the shift.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather).
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to blood born pathogens; works near moving mechanical parts.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Working Hours:
- As scheduled by the Director of Nursing, this position includes holidays, weekends, and non-business hours as needed.
- Rotates as on-call clinician
