Directs patient flow and prioritizes care through ongoing assessment and triage, adjusting to changes in patient volume and acuity.

Accurately documents assessments, reassessments, interventions, medications, IV therapy, blood products, treatments, and patient responses in the electronic medical record. Promptly communicates significant findings and changes in condition to the appropriate members of the healthcare team.

Provides patient and family education, verifies understanding of discharge instructions, and coordinates care with providers, hospital departments, and outside services. Maintains patient and staff safety through established identification, fall-prevention, restraint, infection-prevention, and other safety practices.

Demonstrates advanced emergency nursing knowledge and clinical competence, including cardiac rhythm recognition, medication administration, emergency treatments, specialized equipment, and assigned responsibilities during emergency response and code situations. Serves as a clinical resource and role model for staff.

Supervises hospital operations and the assigned nursing unit during scheduled shifts. Conducts rounds throughout the organization, coordinates departmental activities, and assumes designated leadership responsibilities in the absence of department leaders.

Promotes safe and efficient patient throughput throughout the organization. Identifies and resolves operational or clinical barriers in collaboration with providers, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and leadership.

Evaluates staffing needs based on patient volume, acuity, staff competencies, and organizational activity. Adjusts assignments and staffing as appropriate, assesses anticipated needs for the following shift, and supports cost-effective use of personnel.

Evaluates the quality and safety of patient care through direct observation, nursing rounds, record review, staff and patient interactions, audits, and quality improvement activities. Identifies and addresses concerns related to care delivery, safety hazards, equipment, cleanliness, and supplies.

Coordinates shift activities and ensures effective communication during transitions of care. Provides and supports concise, pertinent handoff reporting and promptly communicates abnormal findings, operational concerns, and unusual situations.

Assists with staff orientation, ongoing education, in-services, competency validation, coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective action in collaboration with the appropriate department manager. Identifies educational needs and promotes staff development.

Supports departmental and organizational planning, quality improvement, and the development, review, implementation, and enforcement of policies, procedures, standards, care plans, forms, and new or expanded services.

Leads and maintains organizational emergency preparedness activities, including reviewing and updating internal and external disaster plans, coordinating education and drills, monitoring emergency supplies and equipment, and identifying opportunities to improve readiness. Activates and directs the appropriate response during emergency or disaster situations and communicates with organizational leaders and external partners as needed.

Investigates and follows through on patient, family, staff, and operational concerns. Completes occurrence and incident reports according to policy, takes appropriate action to support timely resolution, and escalates concerns through the appropriate channels.

Maintains collaborative and professional relationships with physicians, staff, leaders, and other departments. Responds constructively to feedback, supports organizational and medical staff initiatives, and consistently demonstrates the ERMC Leadership Framework.

Participates in nursing leadership meetings, department meetings, committees, task forces, and quality improvement initiatives. Conducts informational shift meetings and communicates relevant organizational and departmental updates to staff.

Represents ERMC at hospital and community events, participates in community education, promotes a positive image of the organization, and identifies opportunities to improve services for patients and the community.

Performs designated Employee Health responsibilities as assigned and in accordance with organizational policies. Ensures work-related injuries, exposures, and other reportable events are documented and communicated through the appropriate channels.

Completes required education and competency assessments and maintains all required licenses, certifications, and continuing education. Pursues professional development to maintain current clinical, leadership, and management knowledge.

Demonstrates proficiency in MEDITECH and other electronic systems and programs required for the position. Ensures patient documentation, departmental records, audits, charges, and other required reports are completed accurately and promptly.

Completes assigned departmental responsibilities, including equipment checks, cleaning, restocking, and other operational duties necessary to maintain readiness and a safe care environment.
