About the Role: The Multidisciplinary Program Nurse is responsible for the school health services for all enrolledstudents and the administration of all health-related activities for our Multidisciplinary Program atBlanche Ames Elementary School. Work includes providing nursing care as well as advisementto staff on medical issues/changes, and ongoing parent/guardian contact. Experience in apediatric setting and/or working with children with special needs strongly preferred. BSN and/orDESE licensure preferred.Duties and Responsibilities: Provides routine and emergency nursing care.
Prepares for, attends, and fully participates in staff meetings -Demonstrates ongoing professional growth and skills consistent with current researchand practice in education through in-services, coursework, evaluations, and onlinecourses. Accurately completes documentation related to student incidents/injuries, physicalintervention, and 51A reports and/or DPPC under the guidance of teacher and/oradministration. Provide emergency care including notification of ambulance, physician, emergency carefacility and members emergency contact. Monitor and document routine vital signs and weight as required.
Train and supervise all staff on various aspects of health and safety as required byDESE. Document all nursing services in the students medical record and maintains an accuratehealth record on each student. Assist in the development of health service policies and procedures. Assist in the implementation of the students educational activities in the classroom asinstructed by the teacher.-Assesses and evaluates students' health,and the degree of significance of healthproblems on student educational progress.
Provides programs for the prevention and control of disease. Coordinates health services with other health disciplines and community resources inorder to fulfill a total health education program. Observes school facilities and recommends modifications necessary to maintainoptimum health and safety of students and school personnel. Responds to frequently encountered health and social problems, such as but not limitedto, child abuse and neglect, alcohol and other drug use, nutrition problems and eatingdisorders, and teen pregnancy.
Organizes, carries out and reports on mandated health screening programs and makesappropriate referrals and follow-up on vision, hearing, and scoliosis screen failures. Acts as a resource to the student, parent, administrators, and teachers in matterspertaining to health. Demonstrates knowledge of, and ability to administer and store medicationsappropriately, in keeping with school policy on administration of medication in the school. Participates in team evaluations and conferences on all children with medical problems.
Provide and document First Aid and illness care provided to staff and students andmaintains First Aid supplies and equipment in an appropriate manner. Screens all new students to ensure compliance with Immunization laws and schoolhealth record requirements, and provides documentation as applicable to host districtschool nurses. Recommends exclusion and monitors readmission to school for students with infectiousor communicable diseases. Communicates with the students PCP and/or specialists as required.
Assists with classroom activities under the direction of the classroom teacher. Performs other nursing duties as assigned. Complete all expected paperwork in a high-quality manner within mandated/requiredtimelines. Shows respect and compassion for all members of the classroom and schoolenvironment, including students, families, staff, and other community members.
Implements all aspects of the educational day, which may include activities of daily living(ADLs) such as toileting, feeding, transferring, self-care, and assistance with mobility,including lifting. Effectively utilizes any recommended adaptive equipment for individual students. Communicate all significant occurrences to the appropriate supervisor in a respectfuland timely manner. Shares in the overall everyday activities necessary for operation of the program(inventorying, ordering, tracking as necessary, suggestions for program improvement,etc.) Maintains an open, honest, and respectful relationship with parents and others involvedwith the students success.
