Do you believe every older adult deserves dignity, respect, and quality care? Are you motivated by helping individuals navigate challenges and ensuring their concerns are heard? If so, we invite you to apply for our Part-Time Ombudsman position.

As an Ombudsman, you will serve as an independent advocate for residents living in long-term care settings, including nursing homes and assisted living communities. Through resident visits, complaint resolution, education, and outreach, you will play a critical role in promoting resident rights and improving quality of life.

Position Responsibilities

Resident Advocacy & Complaint Resolution
  • Respond to concerns raised by residents, families, and other interested parties.
  • Investigate complaints objectively and professionally.
  • Facilitate resolutions that support resident rights, choice, dignity, and quality of care.
  • Maintain accurate case documentation and required records.

Facility Outreach
  • Conduct regular visits to long-term care facilities within the assigned service area.
  • Build professional relationships with residents, facility staff, families, and community partners.
  • Observe and identify issues that may affect resident well-being.

Education & Training
  • Provide information regarding resident rights and available resources.
  • Participate in community outreach activities related to aging and long-term care.
  • Assist with educational presentations and staff training opportunities.

Volunteer Ombudsman Support
  • Assist with recruiting, supporting, and coordinating Volunteer Ombudsman activities.
  • Work alongside volunteers to strengthen advocacy efforts throughout the community.

Systems Advocacy
  • Identify trends and concerns impacting residents in long-term care settings.
  • Support efforts to improve policies, regulations, and practices affecting resident care.
  • Collaborate with the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program to advance resident protections.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one year of professional experience in social services, healthcare, nursing, geriatrics, public health, human services, administration, or a related field.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to serving older adults and individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience with advocacy, case management, social services, healthcare, or community-based programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of long-term care systems and resident rights is beneficial.

Certification Requirement
  • After hire, must successfully complete Idaho's Ombudsman Certification Program before performing Ombudsman duties independently.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $19.00 - $20.85 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
  • 403(b) Retirement Plan with employer match up to 6%
