EASTCONN operates a shared services program at E.O. Smith High School, located in Storrs, CT.  In this program EASTCONN employees work at the E.O. Smith High School location with students who need a structured, supportive, therapeutic environment in order to achieve academic and behavioral success. The program emphasizes supporting students in acquiring the academic, social, emotional and behavioral skills necessary to be successful in the public high school setting, and combine individualized instruction with a multimodal approach and high-interest materials to maximize learning.

We are hiring Student Support Specialist IIs to assist students and other classroom staff to promote a safe and healthy environment for learning.  This position works under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher or other certified staff who assigns tasks and reviews work upon completion.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: At least one year of paid or unpaid volunteer experience working with children in an organized setting.
Or: Combination of education and experience that is a substantial equivalent to the above education and experience.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. For positions in the CDT Program: Within six (6) months of appointment, must successfully complete Physical Management Techniques (PMT) training and recertification annually.
2. For positions in the Autism Program: Within six (6) months of appointment, must successfully complete Safety Care training and recertification annually.
3. Depending on Program: Complete and maintain certification for First Aid and CPR.
