The Reading Interventionist provides intensive, evidence-based reading instruction to students in grades 5–8 who require Tier III intervention through the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). The interventionist collaborates with teachers, special education staff, administrators, and families to identify student needs, implement targeted interventions, monitor progress, and support students in achieving grade-level literacy skills.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide intensive Tier III reading interventions to individual students and small groups using research-based instructional practices.
  • Administer, analyze, and use diagnostic, benchmark, and progress-monitoring assessments to develop targeted intervention plans.
  • Design and implement individualized intervention plans that address deficits in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language as appropriate.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data and student response.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align intervention strategies with Tier I instruction and ensure continuity of support.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of interventions, student progress, and communication with staff and families.
  • Support teachers by providing instructional strategies and resources to improve literacy outcomes in the classroom.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and intervention goals.
  • Assist in identifying students who may require additional evaluations or supports.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and comply with all district, state, and federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • Connecticut certification appropriate for reading instruction (e.g., Reading Consultant #097, Reading and Language Arts Specialist #102, or certification required by the district).
  • Experience providing reading interventions to middle school students preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy practices.
  • Experience using assessment data to drive instruction and monitor student growth.
  • Knowledge of MTSS, intervention planning, and progress monitoring.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
