Middle School Sports Assistant Cross Country Coach

East Windsor Public Schools is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and student-centered Middle School Assistant Coach to help and develop our Co-Ed Cross Country program. The successful candidate will foster a positive team culture while promoting sportsmanship, academic achievement, leadership, and athletic excellence.

The coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising all aspects of the program in accordance with Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) regulations, district policies, and the educational mission of the school.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Plan and conduct daily practices and game preparation.
• Teach sport-specific skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character development.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, transportation, and team events.
• Develop practice schedules, game strategies, and player development plans.
• Maintain effective communication with student-athletes, parents, athletic administration, and school staff.
• Ensure compliance with CIAC rules, district policies, and applicable state regulations.
• Assist with equipment inventory, care, and uniform distribution.
• Promote academic success and positive citizenship among student-athletes.
• Attend required coaches' meetings, professional development, and preseason planning sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the sport.
• Previous coaching and/or competitive playing experience.
• Ability to work effectively with high school students.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Successful completion of required background checks.
• Previous high school coaching experience.
• Current Connecticut teaching certificate (preferred but not required unless specified by district).
• CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or ability to obtain before season begins).
• Completion of CIAC Coaching Education requirements.

Physical Requirements:

• The position requires the ability to:
• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Demonstrate athletic skills and drills.
• Lift and carry athletic equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Season:

• Season: Fall 

Approximate dates:

• 8/24-11/20
• Practices and contests are typically held after school, evenings, weekends, and during school vacations as required.

Compensation:

• Compensation is in accordance with the East Windsor Public Schools Coaches' Salary Schedule and applicable collective bargaining agreement.
