Job description
Kennel Assistant Objectives: The Kennel Assistant provides care and the basic needs of animals that are being boarded, groomed or that are Veterinary patients of East University Veterinary Hospital including cleaning of cages, runs and ward areas, laundry, walking, proper feeding, medicating and general care of all pets in our facility.
***MUST be available to work rotating weekends and rotating holidays***
Afternoon/closing shifts available; weekends and holidays as needed.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous veterinary or animal/pet experience REQUIRED
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Handle animals as required and restrain animals.
- Walk boarded dogs several times a day to provide exercise and time for elimination of bowels and bladder.
- Bathe, groom and provide care to boarded animals and all pets under our care.
- Provide care for animals housed/visiting our facility. Report signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to animal health technicians/managers.
- Clean, disinfect and maintain kennels, cages and runs. Perform general cleaning in other areas of the hospital to control the spread of disease.
Basic Skills
- Apply knowledge and skills in controlling/handling individual animal temperament.
- Knowledge of proper methods of animal restraint
- Knowledge of grooming practices for a wide range of small animals.
- Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.

Pay: $10.00 - $12.00 per hour
