Summary:
The Survivor Advocate provides trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and comprehensive case management to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes. The role requires strong collaboration with community partners, knowledge of legal and social systems, and the ability to provide both immediate crisis response and long-term supportive services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide crisis intervention, legal advocacy, medical and social service advocacy, timely follow-up and information and referrals to survivors.
Provide intake, assessment, safety plan, and service plan development in collaboration with survivors.
Conduct evidence based risk assessments and case management intervention to aid survivors in the successful completion of all service plan goals.
Provide accompaniment to clients in different settings, like court, the hospital, police stations, etc.
Assist survivors with necessary documentation for Protective Orders, Crime Victim Compensation and Victim Impact Statements
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with federal and state law and the ETCC policy.
Facilitate access to emergency shelter, Coordinated Community Response, counseling, transitional housing, and other agency resources.
Conduct support groups weekly.
Participate in case review meetings, training sessions, and community coalitions.
Maintain regular contact with community partners to maintain relevant knowledge.
Complete necessary documentation, document all required information, and maintain a computerized and physical client file in accordance with grant requirements and organizational policies.
Assist on-call hospital advocacy.
Assist with volunteer training, community outreach, and public education as requested.
Occasional travel within Smith County and surrounding counties required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field preferred. Experience in non-profit work and the field of family violence and sexual assault strongly preferred.
Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work with a diverse population.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, and other Office applications.
Knowledge of crisis intervention, case management, social work theory, trauma-informed interventions, and ethics preferred.
Experience in and knowledge of family violence theory and various treatment modalities preferred.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as operating manuals and professional journals.
Ability to draft routine reports, correspondence, and appropriate case notes.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Able to apply critical thinking skills to identify needs and solutions in a timely manner.
Frequent prolonged sitting, walking, stooping, standing, stair-climbing and lifting of up to 25 pounds.
Some flexibility in work schedule required.
Travel is required to meet with team members at all Resource Centers.
Must be able to drive daytime and nighttime hours.
